We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Wildarius Tolbert. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Wildarius below.
Hi Wildarius , thanks for joining us today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
I learned the craft of videography and cinematography by attending college online but mostly through trial and error. I made a lot of mistakes that I learned from along my journey to becoming a professional cinematographer. I believe had I put all my focus in a few years sooner my learning process towards the degree would not have been as long What is always more to learn the process sometimes will take longer than expected, but worth it in the end. The skills that I feel were most essential what time management skills, resourcefulness and I would say alertness. The obstacles that stood in the way when learning this particular skill would have to be location scouting finding the right location and permissions for location and memory card storage learned skill definitely requires having multiple SD cards in memory drives. The last thing you want is to be on set filming something and not have enough memory cards to get it all or not have enough storage to clean the card for another Take. One of my biggest learning curves and takeaways from this process.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I got into this industry sold because everyone around me growing up, made music, but no one to record or film in a way that could touch the masses and get people on board with what we’re doing and what we’re trying to achieve so I went to college for it, learn the skill of cinematography, videography and photography. The one thing that sits me apart from others like me in the industry is that I strive to pleasing my customers and clients with the best service that I can give them how they want it when they want it making sure that they’re happy with everything result that is giving and Wow the experience the work that I am giving I’m making their experience a fun and exciting one and not all uptight and stern. The one thing that I am most proud of is graduating and getting my bachelors degree to better further me in the industry the main thing that I want everyone to know about me and my brain and what it is that I do is that I am the business the brand I am me. I’m a hard worker and I’ll make your budget fit your needs for what it is that you are trying to accomplish when you want the best visuals and edits and most of all experience.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative it’s just that being creative is something that you cannot take away from you that is in your mind. That’s something that you can always have control over is that creative thought and putting whatever it is that you have your mind out into the world in whatever way you want however you want that’s the biggest reward no one can take that away from you no matter how much they want to or how bad they will try to send you it’s not on you the joy you get from seeing people enjoy what you have presented to them. It’s just a plus for what’s more to come that’s the rewarding aspect.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Take a journey with me back to when I was a Junior attending Fullsail University online while at the same time I’m working and at the time I am taking a course where you’re required a lot of hands on work with my camera and my lighting and I wouldn’t get off work until after five so most of my day is already gone and so when I get off I will have to film in my work clothes and still turn around and feel that class and turn around and do it all over again taking a penalty every time I will have to retake that class wanted to give up because I just couldn’t overcome that one class in particular wow things at home with bills are not looking too well either but I found a way by praying and putting God first and everything that I do knowing that he has my back pushing through fighting telling myself I got this motivating myself listening to motivational speeches and everything that would help me along my journey because it one point, I reached in very dark place, wanting to give up, quit my job and just quit on life but I kept going. I didn’t give up so bad the third time over me retaking the class I was able to pass and move forward.
