Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Wilbur Murphy. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Wilbur, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
The most meaningful project I’ve worked on has probably been the Luck Plunge full length album, ‘ruse’. The songs on the album range from being brand new, to 7 years old. I feel like it is the culmination of learning how to write and record the type of music I’ve always wanted to. My friend Lake Brown and I lived together and recorded the album ourselves at our house. We’ve been in bands together since we were teenagers.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I think the most rewarding feeling is having fun. Music is a labor of love and most of the time, you are working a lot for a small step forward. If you don’t try and have fun and find joy in the process, you can become jaded. At the end of the day, we all do music because we love it (even the tough parts). Having a good attitude makes everything from performing to recording, emphatically more rewarding.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Go to shows! Nothing makes playing shows more rewarding than seeing friends and family supporting you. Meeting people and making those connections are essential to having a creative ecosystem. Having a strong Do-It-Togerther ethos is equally as important. We are all in this together and if we all raise each other up, our community can flourish.
