We were lucky to catch up with Wil Otero recently and have shared our conversation below.

Wil, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about the things you feel your parents did right and how those things have impacted your career and life.

Growing up in Brooklyn with a single mother of six children was not easy, but my mom made sure that we never went without love, support, and food on the table. One of the things that my mom did right was to instill in us the values of compassion and empathy. She always taught us to be kind to others, to lend a helping hand whenever we could, and to be understanding of people’s struggles and hardships.

One story that comes to mind is when I was about 10 years old. My mom had just finished cooking a big pot of arroz con gandules (rice with pigeon peas), which is a traditional Puerto Rican dish. As we were sitting down to eat, there was a knock at the door. It was a man who lived in the apartment building next to ours. He was going through a tough time and had no food to eat. Without hesitation, my mom invited him in, served him a plate of arroz con gandules. This was just one of many times that my mom opened our doors to those in need, and it left a lasting impact on me.

My mom’s compassion and empathy have not only shaped who I am as a person, but they have also influenced my career. As a content creator, I strive to tell stories that shed light on important social issues and give a voice to those who are often marginalized and overlooked. I believe that my mom’s values have helped me to connect with people from all walks of life and to approach my work with empathy and understanding.

My name is Wil (Wize) Otero, and I am a podcaster/producer and founder of Real Wize Productions. My journey into the world of video production began a few years ago when I was furloughed from my job . At the time, I was looking for ways to stay productive and decided to start a podcast. I quickly fell in love with the creative process and the ability to share stories that mattered to me.

As my podcast grew in popularity, I realized that I wanted to take my storytelling skills to the next level and began exploring the world of audio/ video production. With the help of some talented friends and mentors, I started Real Wize Productions, a digital content production company that specializes in creating compelling content for businesses, brands, and individuals.

At Real Wize Productions, we offer a range of services, including promotional videos, brand stories, product demos and podcast. We believe that every story is unique and that video is one of the most powerful tools for connecting with audiences and making a lasting impact.

One of the things that sets us apart from others is our commitment to our clients. We work closely with them to understand their vision and goals and to create content that exceeds their expectations. We are also dedicated to using our platform to promote social justice and to amplify the voices of those who are often marginalized and underrepresented.

What I am most proud of is the impact that our work has had on our clients and on the community. We have had the privilege of working with a diverse range of clients. Additionally, we have had the opportunity to work on projects that shed light on important social issues and to collaborate with organizations that are making a positive difference in the world.

How’d you meet your business partner?

My business partner, Anthony “Papi Jae” Gonzalez, is actually my nephew and the oldest son of my older brother. Growing up, I always had a close relationship with my nephews and nieces, and Anthony and I were particularly close. We both shared a love of music and would often chill at neighborhood parties.

Anthony has been here from the beginning with being on the first episode of my podcast and Real Wize Productions, I wanted to bring someone on board who shared my vision and passion for storytelling. . I saw an opportunity to work together and approached him with the idea of starting Real Wize Productions.

Anthony was excited about the idea, and we quickly got to work. As my nephew, he already had a deep understanding of my values and work ethic, and he brought his own unique perspective and skills to the table. Together, we have been able to take Real Wize Productions to the next level, and I am grateful to have him as my business partner and collaborator.

Working with family can be challenging, but Anthony and I have always had a great relationship and a shared sense of purpose. We both believe in the power of storytelling and the ability of video to make a positive impact in the world. I am proud of what we have accomplished together and look forward to what the future holds for Real Wize Productions.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.

Resilience is something that has been a constant theme in my life, especially over the past decade. In 2008, I lost my wife in a tragic car accident, and that event changed the trajectory of my life in ways that I could never have imagined. The years that followed were filled with more loss and hardship, including the passing of my father, uncle, brother, and aunt. Turning my life around after years of battling with grief and anger by self medicating and alcohol is a major accomplishment, and it’s a testament to my strength and resilience. It was not easy to pick myself up after a difficult period but I sought professional help which was a necessary step in moving forward and creating a better future for myself. Without the love and support from my family I definitely would have not made it thru this dark period in my life,
