We were lucky to catch up with Wholehearted recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Wholehearted, thanks for joining us today. One of the things we most admire about small businesses is their ability to diverge from the corporate/industry standard. Is there something that you or your brand do that differs from the industry standard? We’d love to hear about it as well as any stories you might have that illustrate how or why this difference matters.
I personally feel I differ from artist of this era by simply staying true to who I am when it comes to my music and most importantly when it comes to my lyrics. I love a good upbeat fun/Turnt Up vibe for a song , but I also always want to deliver substance in my music. I want you to get/learn a little piece about me from every song I release. So with that being said I pride myself on being truthful and real in my lyrics and delivery to give off an authentic feel.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I started doing music off of literally just being my brothers ride to the studio. Started off as a joke in which they thought I would completely embarrass myself but it turnt out the total opposite of that. Let’s just say from that day on I fell in love with something I never dreamed of seeing myself being involved in. I never liked being the center of attention and I’m naturally laid back and not very social to new things and people. Kind of crazy profession to get in being that it’s part of the entertainment business but I’ve grown accustomed to having the spotlight from time to time now. Mainly though I just love to express my pain, love , losses, and joys through my music . Most proud that people can see I’m trying to take the road less traveled when it comes to music . And when I say that I mean the road artist like J.Cole , Kendrick Lamar or Joyner Lucas took where it does not have to be “shoot them up bang bang” for it to be relatable . I love that im still able to draw in fans doing it my authentic way.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
People love being able to relate to something. It makes them feel connected to you as an artist and also keeps them wanting more from you. So overall I’d say my strategy is give them the real and if it’s for them they will come.
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Of course! In music I’ve learned that it’s a lot you must learn while navigating through the journey. All that I know now musically whether is the business side or the in studio etiquette or knowing how to properly communicate inside studio to make the engineer understand the exact sound and feel I’m looking for , all of that would’ve had me miles ahead of where I am now if I would’ve known it from the beginning. But I love the journey and wouldn’t have it any other way then the way I’m traveling it now
