We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Whitney White a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Whitney thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s talk about social media – do you manage your own or do you have someone or a company that handles it for you? Why did you make the choice you did?
Social media has the power to instantaneously connect you with your audience, and as such, it is a perfect marketing tool. Although managing my own business was new territory for me, it did not deter me from embarking on other new journeys, like managing my business’s social media presence.
I looked into options of hiring a company to manage my content; however, I opted to do it myself instead. Having control of my media presence allowed me to find my voice and better understand my brand. There is no right or wrong way to do it; it is more so what works best for you. Time, finances and creativity, to name a few, are all factors that helped in my decision-making. This process continues to stretch me and constantly provides opportunities for personal and professional growth.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am Whitney White, Owner of Designed Creative Services (DCS), LLC, and Author of “The Big Road Trip” reading and coloring books. As a child, whenever I was asked about what I wanted to be when I grew up, my answer was always a teacher. However, life led me on a different path that has afforded me the opportunity to teach through my children’s books.
“The Big Road Trip” was inspired by my love for family and travel. In fact, trips made to visit my grandfather, who is affectionately known as Big Daddy, are true events that I was able to recall when creating this story. Although my book was unintentionally written in 2019, it was not until 2021 that I realized what I had. It was then I decided to bring this story to life and self-publish by establishing my business, DCS, LLC.
Becoming an owner and author has taken me on a journey that I could have never imagined for myself. I have met so many families and have read to so many children, all while helping so many future authors begin their own journey too. “The Big Road Trip” reading and coloring books, are available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble and Books-a-Million, to name a few.
With the first anniversary of “The Big Road Trip” under my belt, I cannot be more proud of myself for stepping out on faith and not allowing the unknown stop me from maximizing my potential. My owner and author story is being written everyday, and my seatbelt is surely buckled as I continue to enjoy my Big Road Trip!

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Being able to bounce back in adverse situations or getting back up after being knocked down is the epitome of resilience. There were times I had deadlines that I set for myself that I did not meet when I wanted to; however, in time, I still achieved that goal. It may have taken me longer, but I wanted a product that I could be proud of instead of rushing to meet some imaginary due date. Even the mistakes helped me learn and grow, as untapped potential was being explored. That kind of resilience is what birthed DCS and “The Big Road Trip”, and for that, I am forever grateful.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
When the unexpected happens, that is typically when my plan B kicks in. More specifically, when it came to writing my book, I had no idea where to begin to bring it to life. From finding an illustrator to deciding to self-publish, required me to pivot at almost every turn. Each initial thought was met with a potential challenge and the only way to overcome that hurdle was to pivot. Although not always ideal, in the long run, I was happier with the final decision. Giving myself the freedom to try something new and pivot as necessary, fostered growth that can be applied in my business, in my career and in my life.
