We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Whitney Singleton a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Whitney , thanks for joining us today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
Success, to me, is about defining what it looks like for you, working towards achieving that success, and being your own biggest cheerleader. Success is about believing in yourself, even when your goals might seem ambitious—or even delusional—to others. Success isn’t a one-size-fits-all concept; it can look very different depending on the industry you’re in and the values you have. For me, staying true to myself and setting personal goals has been the foundation of my journey.
I grew up in an environment where there was a “right way” to achieve success—a specific path I was supposed to follow. But as I got older, I realized that I didn’t enjoy simply doing what I was “supposed to do.” I found my passion and happiness by carving out my own path. While I value learning from others and understanding when to take conventional advice, I’ve also learned to embrace risk and go off the beaten path when necessary.
One example of this mindset paying off is my journey as a content creator. Stepping into this industry, I knew it wasn’t the traditional route to success, but I believed in myself and my ability to create something meaningful. Through hard work, self-belief, and a willingness to adapt, I’ve achieved a level of success I’m incredibly proud of. Now, my focus is on maintaining that momentum and exploring how far I can take it.
Success starts with knowing yourself, trusting your vision, and having the courage to pursue it—even when the path isn’t clear.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m a full-time content creator, influencer, and the founder of KeepUpRadio LLC! I specialize in creating videos that blend music, skits, and relatable humor with gaming and pop culture themes. My journey into video creation began in middle school when I spent hours running around with my digital camera making lip-sync videos with my friends. That passion for creativity stuck with me, leading me to study communication in college and focus on extracurriculars related to digital and social media marketing.
After graduating, I worked in marketing, where I became fascinated by inbound marketing strategies. Outside of work, I started experimenting with my own social media projects, and what began as a podcast called KeepUpRadio evolved into the video-based digital presence I maintain today.
For my community, I provide entertaining and relatable videos designed to make people laugh and feel seen. For brands and businesses, I deliver engaging, high-quality video content that effectively communicates their messaging in a fun, digestible way.
What sets me apart is my commitment to authenticity and the personal code I live by: If my content isn’t negatively impacting society or tearing someone down for who they are, I don’t care what people think about it. This perspective allows me to post confidently, free from the fear of judgment, and ensures I always stand by what I create.
I’m most proud of the social media presence I’ve built by staying true to myself and focusing on having fun. I want my audience to know that success—and even joy—can come from being unapologetically yourself. For my clients, I offer versatility and professionalism. Whether it’s writing and producing a custom song, creating a captivating skit for a product or event, or delivering content ahead of schedule, I pride myself on being reliable and easy to work with. My experience in corporate America taught me the importance of organization and work ethic, and I bring those values to every project I take on.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
The best source of new clients and brand sponsorships for me has been focusing on creating great content. Early on, I believed I needed to invest a lot of time in outbound efforts—reaching out to brands and making sure they knew who I was—in order to increase sponsorship opportunities. But over time, I realized that the most effective strategy was simply putting my energy into making high-quality, engaging videos that resonate with my audience.
When I focus on my content the opportunities come organically!
Have you ever had to pivot?
I started my content creation journey on TikTok in November 2020, and for a long time, it was my primary focus. I loved making short 10-30 second long videos, and the platform allowed creators to monetize any video length as long as they were part of the monetization program.
However, in July 2023, TikTok introduced a major change to its monetization program. The new system required creators to make videos at least one minute long to earn revenue. This shift posed a big challenge for me because my content style was built around creating 10-30 second videos. I had to make a decision: adapt my entire creative process to fit TikTok’s new requirements or explore other platforms where my content style could still thrive.
In January 2024, I decided to pivot to YouTube, which still allowed creators to monetize short-form videos. At the time, I had about 210K subscribers on YouTube, but within a year of committing to YouTube, I gained over 1 million subscribers. This transition not only helped me grow my audience but also allowed me to earn more revenue than I ever had on TikTok.
While the pivot was initially daunting, it taught me an important lesson: social media platforms will always prioritize their business goals, and creators need to assess if those changes align with their business long term. Looking back, I’m incredibly grateful for the change TikTok made—it pushed me in a direction that turned out to be more lucrative and gave me greater control over my revenue streams. Sometimes, an unexpected shift can lead to better opportunities, and I’m proud of how I embraced that change.
