We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Whitney Rosenson Sincoff. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Whitney below.
Whitney, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What were some of the most unexpected problems you’ve faced in your business and how did you resolve those issues?
The most unexpected problem I’ve faced in my business was when COVID hit in March, 2020. In January of that year I had opened a beautiful gallery in Studio City. I had signed a two-year lease and was stuck with paying rent and various other expenses one has when running a gallery, but due to COVID, I wasn’t able to host openings, exhibitions, artist talks, etc. Needless to say, it was a very hard time! I was so excited to have a light and bright, brick and mortar space that provided exposure for my artists’ works. To try to resolve the issue, I decided to focus more on my website and I redesigned it to create a more user-friendly platform. I added additional artworks to the site from each artist I represent, and also created a portal where consumers could create a “set list” for me to quickly determine the availability of the art, and provide them with a quote. In addition, I started my podcast, “Beyond the Palette” where I interview artists on my roster and others in the art world like interior designers, set decorators and gallerists. I wanted to to educate people about contemporary art as best I could using the resources I had, outside of an actual gallery.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Sure. I was born and raised in Los Angeles and I studied Art History at the University of Michigan. After graduation, I moved to New York City to work at the famous, Caroline’s Comedy Club. However, when my mother, the original owner of Art Dimensions, was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, I decided to move back to California. My mom passed away in 1998, and that’s when I knew in my gut that I wanted to run Art Dimensions and carry on her legacy. I love contemporary art, had grown up with it as my parents were collectors themselves, and studied art history in college. Art Dimensions Inc. (ADI) is a unique, contemporary art leasing and sales business that specializes in the leasing of art with option to buy. With leasing, you can rotate the artwork in your office or home to “change it up” every six months! ADI works with corporate offices, homeowners and production companies for tv show and feature film sets to help decorate their spaces and sets. If you are hesitant to spend a hefty amount on art, leasing is a great and affordable way to “test drive” a work(s) of art at a fraction of its retail price before committing to purchase. Also, 60% of one’s rental fees applies towards the purchase of the art. I am proud that there are now 84 exceptional artists on the Art Dimensions roster. We deal with various media including paintings, prints, sculptures and photography. The art that we handle is amazing and there is truly something for every contemporary art lover at Art Dimensions.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
As a business member of the Set Decorator’s Society of America (SDSA), the organization has been a fantastic source of new clients for Art Dimensions. ADI works with production companies regularly and we love to collaborate with set decorators to help decorate the sets of tv shows and films.

We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
I regularly use social media and email marketing for my business. Art Dimensions has a presence on Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest and Linked In. I keep in touch with clients through these social media platforms as well as through email marketing. To foster brand loyalty, I post images on my socials to help people get ideas of what installations with art from Art Dimensions look like in homes, offices or on sets. I also highlight completed projects, new art pieces from the artists I work with, and videos from artist studio visits.
