We were lucky to catch up with Whitney Ingram-Finley recently and have shared our conversation below.
Whitney, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
The name of my business is AngelicFaces. My inspiration behind the brand is in loving memory of my beautiful mother, my angelic Angel, Angel(a). To know her, was to love her. She was divine, spiritual and of course angelic.
Whitney, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a freelance, licensed Esthetician. I specialize in Makeup application and customized facials. I remember growing up, I would always tell my mother how I wanted to be a Covergirl. Seeing these commercials of beautiful girls, I instantly knew I wanted to be apart of the “Covergirl world”. In more simple terms, beauty. I love to enhance the beauty of others, whether that’s with applying makeup for a special occasion or helping a client in staying consistent with a skin regimen. With each client, my goal is to make their appointment an experience, not just a session. I love to find out about my clients lifestyle and the purpose of the appointment made. I love to see the reactions from my clients after a session. It definitely reassures me that I am doing something right. I treat my clients as if they’re family, which they are, but more like extended family (eye wink).
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
Have you ever heard of the quote “Everything that glitters, is not gold?” It’s so relevant and true for this particular question. To pursue my Esthetician career, I moved from my small Hometown to the DFW area. I packed up and left within two months of touring the institute, Ogle, where I received my certification. I was serious about the change that I wanted for myself and my career, so I did what was necessary and boy was it HARD! To be able to pay for tuition, I worked from 8am-5pm, clocked in to school from 6pm-9:30pm. Remember, whatever was necessary right? After graduating, I realized paying for tuition was the easy part. Being a self employed, Licensed Esthetician, is not for the weak lol I promise! Being self employed, period, is not easy, but this is my passion and again, I did whatever was necessary. I worked two jobs, outside of taking care of my AngelicFaces clients. I only want the best for my clients and I was willing to work many hours to offer only the BEST in products, equipment and experience. Funding your business is one of the many hardships that customers do no see. I try my best to do things of Excellence and it takes money to do so. Again, whatever is necessary.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Being knowledgeable in your profession is so important. I never stop studying, here and there, and gaining knowledge when it comes to skin. Potential customers know when you’re doing a certain thing for money or if it’s truly your passion. Being the authentic person that I am and networking has been the most effective strategy for growing my clientele. Being an introvert, I sometimes struggle with networking and meeting new people. I’m positive there are other entrepreneurs that feels my pain here lol. If you’re reading this, always remember Closed mouths do not get fed. You are a representation of your brand. Speak with poise and let your skills speak for itself!
