We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Whitney House a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Whitney, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
I’ve learned to how to customize my clothes by a simple accident, acrylic paint spilled on my clothes. I tried to wash it off. It never came off. From that point on I’ve customized my clothes with acrylic or fabric paint.
Knowing what I know now, nothing could have sped up the process. I feel as though everything takes time.
The skills that are the most essential is staying consistent and always learning something new.
The obstacles that stood in the way are financial hardship. Unable to pay for certain services to learn more or develop more.

Whitney, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I originally got into the fashion industry customizing clothes, creating 1 of 1 bags from scratch, hand painting sneakers. These were things I’ve always been passionate about, I’ve shared that with the world for 12 years. I recently pivoted into the content creation industry. I am still exploring and learning about the industry.
I am fairly new to the content creation industry, I don’t have a particular service I offer at the moment.
I think what sets me apart from others is my ability to stay consistent and create things at a fast rate.
I am the most proud of starting over again from scratch. I left behind a brand that I started in 2011. To pursue an industry I barely know about. But I am at peace with everything.
I want my viewers to know it’s ok to start over and to keep going.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
In 2021 I was hit by a car, I was unable to walk for 3 months. 10 months after I was able to walk / run a 5k races. During this time I realized how much resilience I had. The beauty in this story, is that Rock The Bells and Essence Magazine both wanted to highlight this in video based on my life.

Have you ever had to pivot?
I recently pivoted from being a designer to content creation. This journey has been scary but rewarding. On my first Instagram I was able to grow 13k in followers. I left it all behind to create something new, something refreshing. I still don’t have a clue what I am doing, but everyday I’m learning and applying it.
