We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Whitney Bass a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Whitney, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
The story behind my business mission likely varies from those in my industry as it’s a pretty personal one. I struggled with an eating disorder in my high school years to the point of needing to seek inpatient treatment. While in that treatment facility I was surrounded by so many other young girls who, like me, were also struggling to see their beauty. We believed we needed to look a certain way to be able to feel value. Upon leaving that center I was impacted enough by what I’d gone thru personally & witnessed that I knew I needed to be the change I needed & wanted for so many others who struggle too. So, I became a hairstylist! I’ve built my business on the mission of being able to physically help enhance peoples natural beauty so they can not only see it, but feel it too.
Whitney, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hi! I’m Whitney! I’m a motivational junkie who believes the cup is always 1/2 full, especially when that cup has iced coffee in it! I’m a lover of all things beauty & have spent the last 17years immersed in the beauty industry. I’m always eager to enhance my skills to better serve my clients. I love sharing my knowledge with other professionals along with clients in order to help them feel confident. I started my business, W.Bass Hair | W.Bass Bridal, because getting to be part of your everyday & certainly your wedding day is an irreplaceable feeling that I just can’t get enough of! I love helping clients enhance their natural beauty to not only look good but feel good about themselves too! When I’m not behind the chair in my salon studio, educating other professionals or helping a bride on her wedding day you can find me listening to inspiring podcasts, going for walks or spending quality time with my husband & two sons!
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
One of the most important things I’ve done to help build my business in my market is to network with other vendors & professionals both in my industry & outside. Being able to cultivate connections in a world where being social looks so much different than it used to has really helped expand my reach & reputation both as a hairstylist & a bridal hair specialist.
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
One of the ways I love to keep in touch with my salon studio clients that is also non-invasive is thru my private client Facebook group! I’m able to host client only education that often covers frequently asked hair styling or hair product questions & promote salon promotions & updates all while not invading their inbox! It’s been a really fun way to gain insight & help them outside of the salon studio.
A small way that has been really impactful for creating brand loyalty in the bridal side of my business has been to offer a gift card to a current or past bride for the referral of a new bride. It’s a great way to get to reward someone for not only choosing my business but loving it enough to share with their friends!
