We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Weston Mosburg a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Weston thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Patience and persistence are the two things you need to become successful. It doesn’t matter how skilled you are at something if you aren’t patient. It takes some people years to become good at their craft, and that’s fine, You hear stories all the time about how people didn’t become who they are today until late in life. Colonel Sanders didn’t get KFC going until he was 62! It may seem like you need to be successful today or this year, but everyone has lots of time to develop. That’s where the persistence comes in. If you work at something everyday for a long period of time, you’ll vastly improve. No, you may not be the best in the world, but you can become the best version of yourself and max out your own potential. If you try your hardest and give everything you have, that sounds like a success to me.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’ve always been into photography for as long as I can remember. I played with my moms old film camera growing up just snapping away with no film inside. For my middle school graduation I asked for a video camera, and bought my first professional camera at 17. It has developed from a hobby to my career as I’m now a fashion photographer in New York City.
I truly love what I do and put 100% into my work, I think that it shows.
Alright – let’s talk about marketing or sales – do you have any fun stories about a risk you’ve taken or something else exciting on the sales and marketing side?
A fashion show reached out to me asking for me to shoot their show for free. I turned them down and instead sent them some of my work along with my rate. They then decided to choose me to shoot the show over their regular photographer. Because of that I ended up having my photos published in Vogue Mexico.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
To enjoy life. We don’t know how long we’ll be on this earth, so why would you spend a single minute doing something you don’t love, or is at least on the path towards your passion. Sure you can work a 9-5 job that is secure and stable, but what if you die at 30? You’ll have wasted your life for a future you may never get to. You have to live every day like it’s your last, because it could be.
