Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Wesley Spence. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Wesley, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?
2 of the most impactful things I feel my parents have done raising me has to be 1. Not putting me in a box in regards to future career paths. Them being supportive of whatever I might’ve been interested in at the time gave me a great foundation of support. 2.(it may sound cliche but) Installing the mindset that with hard work I can do anything. That really allowed me to consider any and everything in regards to my future. From the biggest profession like the president to the most humble way of living like a restaurant owner. But whatever I was interested in they just wanted to make sure I did it to the absolute best of my ability.

Wesley, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Wesley Spence and I am a 19 year old Model, Clothing Brand Owner, and Barber.
As I started post pictures of outfits and sharing my fly with social media I unintentionally opened myself into the modeling scene. I’ve done projects for local clothing brands in my area, but my most recent project has been with The Social Status and Bape marketing campaign. Definitely my biggest job yet, and it gave me a taste of what modeling is like on a higher level, and I absolutely loved it. I definitely would like to expand this into doing more jobs like acting, I feel like that will be the next level of me in front of the camera.
I’ve always been a big marketing geek for a few years now and seeing the increase of brands in businesses throughout the past few years I wanted to help them with the knowledge I’ve gained, specifically clothing brand since I am into fashion and surprisingly that is what brought me to starting my clothing brand. In order to show proof I could market successfully I felt I should come up with my own brand and at the same time push something empowering to my target audience, and that is slight back story on how “iconicc22” came about. It is a brand inspiring people to be iconicc by their everyday actions. Right now the main emphasis is marketing and building up the brand image and identity. It is currently transitioning more into a media company that monetizes thru clothing. This would allow us to really highlight and show any and everything iconicc. And this allows us not to be constrained into the box of just “clothing brand”.
Since I was young I felt one of the coolest people were always barbers, but I still never even thought to become one. I started cutting my own hair around 2017-18 and after PLENTY of mess ups I got fairly decent at it. It wasn’t until I got to college that I started cutting other people on the regular. And surviving off those cuts while also gaining new connections and helping the community of guys on my campus really opened me up to the consideration of taking barbering seriously. I’ve found transforming hair cuts very therapeutic and currently I am in the process of enrolling into barber school to get my license. Being able to earn my own money with my skill, the entrepreneur in me took that opportunity and ran with it. I plan on opening a spot and bring back the classic and unforgettable vibes of a community barbershop back to the barbering world.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I am a very active deep thinker, and I constantly find myself asking myself the purpose of everything that I do. And I always come up with the same conclusion. Legacy. I want to build an empire, something valuable that can be pass down thru my lineage. And not only my lineage but have impact on others lives, far past the people I’ve even met. I fee me achieve that is icon status itself. I wanna be a role model for many and show why you should never limit yourself.

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
I am very big on gaining knowledge I feel is the foundation of your future, so best believe i indulge in books, lectures, podcasts, etc in my free time. I think the most impact happens when there is a mindset shift or a new perspective/ way of thinking is shown. That’s the whole goal for me just seeking as many different perspectives as possible and applying them to my journey. Books like “Think and Grow Rich: A Black Choice”, “Secrets of the Millionaire Mind”. Podcasts with people like Alex Hormozi, Robert Greene, Gary Vee. And i listen to tons of lectures on the daily, but there is one specific one that I have on repeat, and it’s from Jim Rohn- “The Major Key to your Better Future is You”. If you give that a listen I promise it’ll keep your head in straight.
