We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Weslee Jane. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Weslee below.
Hi Weslee, thanks for joining us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
I started out in the beauty industry when I was 19 years old. At 20 I got pregnant with my daughter. Being a young mom was a challenge and I struggled with addiction. Once I started to see my life come together I knew that I wanted to work with women in all walks of life and help them to feel beautiful and confident in their skin regardless of what society was telling them was “beautiful.”
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a mother of two, my daughter is 20, and my son is 9. My mother passed away in 2017 and my dad passed away in 2020…I have been through all walks of life and bring the knowledge and grace I have been given in life to my practice. I strive to meet my clients where they are at that given moment when they walk into my studio. I have created a warm and welcoming environment where clients feel at home whether they have seen me numerous times, or it is their first time with me.
Most days you can catch me with minimal makeup on; tinted SPF, mascara, and brows go a long way. I want my clients to see my skin for all that it is and the imperfections that I too have. After all, my goal is for my clients to love their bare face just as much as I love mine.
I am trained in multiple pmu services but primarily focus on tattoo removal. The technique I perform uses natural ingredients to lift the pigment out of the skin allowing the skin to function as designed. It includes a healing mask to sooth and calm the tissue for easier healing.
I will soon be adding non pigment scar and stretch mark revision treatments to my offerings as well.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
This is a good one!
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Obviously 2020 threw a doozy to all of us. My industry was shut down for months. Life was hard, unemployment wasn’t giving much. At the time of the shut down I was dedicating my all to a new spa that had opened up but they were not reopening when they could of and I knew it was time to reopen my business. So in July of 2020 I signed a lease at a salon and decided I was going to work my business in a new town during a pandemic. It was great, I was loving my location and the clients I was meeting. Then in August of 2020 I received the call from my sister saying she found my father deceased. My world crumbled, I had now lost both my parents, was a mom to two, and building a business. Something had to give and it was my work. I took time off, focused on family and processing the loss. It was a very numb time in my life, something I am still working through.
Today I remember my parents and everything they taught me about life, love, family, and strength. Some days are still difficult but I hold onto their love and put my big girl panties on.
