We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Wes Harris. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Wes below.
Hi Wes, thanks for joining us today. If you’re open to it, can you talk to us about the best (or worst) investment you’ve made. What’s the backstory and the relevant context behind why you made the investment
The best investment I’ve ever made in a business would definitely be time. There’s something about constantly showing up for your dream, even on days where you don’t feel like it. Although investing money is just as vital, there’s no receipts when your time is spent somewhere. For me, music has always been a passion. For years I created songs, marketed products & albums without seeing much profit. Someone once told me that it takes about 3 years to see the results in what you do. I couldn’t agree more. Today things fortunately look a lot different, I’ll never take the hours put in for granted.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My name is Wes Harris. I fell in love with creativity at a young age. I remember as a child, spending free time with my art teacher at Twin Lakes Elementary. Art gave me a language that I could freely express myself with. This love only grew when I discovered my dads vinyl collection in the attic from his Dj days. This passion stuck with me into later years. I’m middle school I got my first Apple computer as a Christmas which led to learning how to produce and compose songs.
What I’m most proud of in my craft, would have to be my drive. I’ve produced every song in either my home studio, or a hotel somewhere. There’s such a joy that comes when you’re able to bring fruition to the ideas you have. It takes drive to stick through, and cultivate your ideas. Music is like a puzzle to me, and the challenges that come are party of the mystery. I find joy in creating, and I think all the early years cultivated a pure passion to create.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
One thing I had to learn is; “you don’t know enough.” I remember being younger and wanting to put out an album. I reached out to someone I looked up to for wisdom & guidance. I remember leaving feeling unqualified. I was told how I needed thousands of dollars, and how I wasn’t ready or didn’t have the right connections.
We’re there some truths in there? Of course. But was it all truth? Not at all. Later I found myself spending hours on YouTube learning my industry and what it took release music independently. My eyes were open. So much revelation gained in that time. What amazes me was how much that I could actually do once I did the research and stopped waiting for it to be handed to me. Not only did I prove that person wrong, but I actually proved myself that I was capable.

Have you ever had to pivot?
When I first started my career I was going by a different artist name. And if you’re reading this…No I’m not telling you the name lol. But it was immature, and it didn’t reflect the man and artist I was becoming. Back then, opportunities didn’t come often and I realized that branding played a lot to do with that. After some prayer, and talks with people I trust, I transitioned into the name and artist “Wes Harris”. This was one of the greatest choices I’ve made in my career. You can never make a first impression twice. Making every chance count is vital.
