Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Wendy Tigerman. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Wendy, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. I’m sure there have been days where the challenges of being an artist or creative force you to think about what it would be like to just have a regular job. When’s the last time you felt that way? Did you have any insights from the experience?
I had a “real job” for about 20+ years. It was a radio production company, Tiger Radio, and we wrote, cast, directed and produced comedy radio spots. My co-producers and engineers were some of my best friends. And I worked with the funniest actors in Los Angeles. Not too bad!
I retired about 15 years ago and have loved being a full time artist since then. I live a happy life gardening, loving up my rescue dogs and creating at least one digital collage daily.
Wendy, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
In my radio business, I got into it after having a world famous radio company call me and ask if I wanted to produce for them. It started me on the most fun work I’ve ever done Well, except for creating mixed media and digital collage. I retired from advertising over 15 years ago and have devoted myself to full time collage since then. I’m proud to be represented by TAG (The Artists Gallery) in mid-Wilshire in Los Angeles. In fact I have a solo show there now. It runs until Jan.3. One of the things I’m most proud of is the creation of a book, Collage to the Rescue. It is a collection of 44 dog-themed collages from different fabulous artists. I’m proud that 50% of the royalties go to not-for-profit animal rescue organizations.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
My advertising work came to me almost unsolicited. However creating art for sale is much more difficult. Whilst a marketing maven, promoting my own artwork is daunting. I am still in the process of figuring out how to do it. Mostly my work sells at exhibits I am fortunate enough to be selected for.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My mission is to have fun. If you see my collage work, you will see that I accomplish that 100%. At the reception for my first solo show a few nights ago, the work made everyone happy. Selling my work is an afterthought. Though I’d love to have that happen more.
