We were lucky to catch up with Wendy Olutiola recently and have shared our conversation below.
Wendy, appreciate you joining us today. If you had a defining moment that you feel really changed the trajectory of your career, we’d love to hear the story and details.
A defining moment for me in my career was in 2020 when I finally realized that I was tired of building other people’s dreams whilst neglecting my own. It was also the year that I created WOT Skincare. I decided then that I wanted to spend more time on myself and on my own wants and needs as well as my dreams. I wanted to create a company that was sustainable and good for people and for the planet. Each day, i bounce out of bed brimming with new ideas in how to solve people’s skin conditions and I’m excited for WOt’s to come.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am Wendy, and I’m a mother, wife and entrepreneur. My journey with WOT Skincare began a few years ago when I found myself dealing with some very stubborn skincare issues on my face, arms and neck which left me very miserable. I had to solve my skincare issues and in embarking on that journey, I learned so much about our skin, our bodies and so much more. I wanted to create clean and natural products that everyone could use regardless of their skin type.. I also wanted the products to be luxurious and hydrating whilst leaving you with a spa like experience.
I am most proud of the fact that people believe in our products, and we have customers in so many different parts of the world. It’s been a long journey, but it still excites me when I hear customers talking about their experiences since discovering WOT Skincare…..it makes all the hard work worthwhile.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Many moons ago, I worked in the media industry as an events manager, a job i really enjoyed. But sadly, after September 11th, many of us in the media industry were made redundant, it was at this point in my life that I had to pivot into an area where I could see growth opportunities and that was how my love for real estate was born.
I have been fortunate enough to have been able to pivot successfully a number of times in my personal and professional life. I have gained so many skills, qualifications and experiences (good and not so good) over the years which has allowed for me to be able to function in so many different industries.
If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
If i could go back in time, then I would have embarked on starting up my skincare business much earlier. It’s a process that i have truly enjoyed, learnt and grown from. I love it!
