We were lucky to catch up with Wendy Nguyen recently and have shared our conversation below.
Wendy, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Who is your hero and why? What lessons have you learned from them and how have they influenced your journey?
My dad is my hero. Being second generation Asian-American, I was raised to believe in the American dream – achieving the highest of aspirations through hard work. It wasn’t until I got older that I started to understand why he

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
What started as a quarantine hobby in 2020, quickly turned into a growing business. I specialize in web design and development, building websites for small businesses starting out online. I also dabble in a little bit of photography, graphic design, content creation, and technical writing.
Social media like Facebook and Instagram can only get one so far when it comes to building a brand online. At the end of the day, there should be a central location to find a business’ information: who are they, what do they offer, and how can they be contacted. Individuals shouldn’t feel intimidated when it comes to putting together a website.
Quite often, web developers are associated with just writing code. But that’s not all we do! Speaking on behalf of all web developers, we try and see problems before they happen. Before every go-live, I follow the best practices for search engine optimization which improves a site’s chances of appearing on the search engine results page like Google. I also increase site speed to contribute to a positive first impression of the business. No one likes a slow loading page! And most importantly, I make sure to increase security so a website doesn’t get hacked.
With my work, I hope to educate others on the basics of web developing, social media, and digital marketing while also helping them set a foundation for their business’ mission and goals.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Building a reputation let alone clientele requires being transparent and tactful. The beauty of web design is the product of bringing a client’s idea to life. Some come in with an idea they’d envision for their business sometimes modeling after other businesses, but branding isn’t “one size fits all”. I help individuals cater to their intended audience by making sure we’re asking the right questions while also providing the answers. Communication is key!
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a web designer is bringing the ideas of others to life. Something as simple as a website impacts how an audience will see an individual’s brand, setting the first impression of the business. It brings me joy when I hear about the businesses I’ve helped thrive from the extra audience they pull in through their website. “They Google’d me!” has never sounded better. I’ve been fortunate enough to work with great people where almost all of my projects have come from word of mouth.
