Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Wendy Intrieri. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Wendy, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What sort of legacy are you hoping to build. What do you think people will say about you after you are gone, what do you hope to be remembered for?
I dream of leaving a legacy built on acceptance and channeling one’s strengths to live their best lives. I dream that motivational mindset training with horses will spread nation is not worldwide. I dream that Sea2StableINC will not only survive, but thrive after I am gone.
What will they say about me? Some may say stubborn, hahaha, but I take that as determined. I am a hard worker, and when I set my mind on something, I make it happen. I think they will say that I am kind. Lastly honest!! “She will not and could not lie”
I really hoped to be remembered as someone who touched lives. Animal and human. I strive to find the strengths in everyone, and encourage them to embrace them. Same goes for the horses. Focus on their strengths. We all have unique qualities that contribute to the beauty in life. I hope to be remembered as someone who took their knowledge and expertise and used it for good. Did I think outside the box? Was I not like other trainers? Absolutely!!!! We cannot change for the better and evolve if we are not willing to step out front and speak up.
I want this legacy to live on, and to do that I need to educate others on this Motivational Mindset.
Wendy, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Sea2Stable. Let me explain the name. I took knowledge gained from a decade of dolphin training (SEA) and brought it to horses (STABLE). With the dolphins we used positive reinforcement training. Something not often used in the horse industry, and I did not understand why. My first horse was a rescue with an extremely traumatized past. Traditional training set her back even worse. She needed to change her thought, therefore her feeling, towards people. ENTER positive reinforcement!! My specialty!! This was my chance to tiptoe into the horse world. And after my successes with Lilly, I jumped in with both feet, and brought other horse owners with me!! I began fostering horses that needed a reset emotionally. Many rescues can be healed physically, but what about their mind. Better yet, let’s help them before they get to the point of needing rescued!!
I began Sea2Stable. The LLC is now known as Wave Horsemanship while Sea2StableINC remains the name for the 501c3. They both use the same training.
Through the LLC side I can either train the horse at my property, or even better, I train the owners how to target the “challenging” behavior and improve the situation based on proactive behavioral management. Hopefully creating a stronger bond for them, and preventing a “rescue” situation down the road.
The 501c3, is a rescue for those challenging horses that are on the final chance to heal.
Now back up a step. I have two health conditions which leave me often in pain and without extra strength. The horses have been such a blessing to me. They give me reason to push through and not dwell on my unfortunate health. Being around the especially sensitive horses, and helped with my mental health. Finding a state of calm. I HAD TO SHARE THIS!!!
Motivational Mindset is something we should all practice in our daily lives. We expanded. Especially serving at risk and underserved in our community. We do life coaching sessions with these horses. Individuals may feel specifically connected to a certain horse because they found similarities with their story. Or, we partner them with the horse that best help them focus on what they would like to practice. Building confidence? communication? centering emotions?
We have been in existence for just over a year, and I am in awe with the growth and support from the community. I look forward to our future.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Seeing it in action!!! I am 110% transparent and honest. Training a horse, is NOT like programming a computer. there is not a single approach. I make it clear, that I am always learning as I go. each horse brings about a special lesson. I am opened minded to share information with others in the field and receive knowledge as well. It was seeing the success with the rescues, that I think sparked others’ interest. “well if it works for THAT horse!!” Now both are growing faster than expected.
The transparency proves to other’s in the field of the legitimacy. It is not all sunshine and rainbows. And I willingly share those moments.
Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
Inclusion and teamwork!!!! These were two critical elements even at my former jobs, where I was in a leadership role.
Everyone wants to feel important. And everyone IS!!! Acknowledge each person’s contribution to your success. Whatever their role may be, it matters 100%.
Teamwork, is not just everyone working together, but everyone having a voice. Really listen to everyone’s ideas! I try my hardest to incorporate them. Let them lead their own projects. If there is something they are passionate about; let them run with it. This is where some of the greatest ingenuity was born.
