Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Wendy Holland. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Wendy, thanks for joining us today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
Selfishly Spoiled came about when I was in college back in 2014. I am the only girl and the youngest in my family. So growing up, I was always called spoiled. At the time I was trying to come up with a business name for a hair company since at that time that was what I wanted to do. Since everyone would call me spoiled I would always say “I used to be however now I spoil myself since I started working full time”. Then it clicked, I can call my business Selfishly Spoiled. Soon after I added a tag line “Will you spoil yourself?”. Spoiling yourself is a form of self care. Today self care is a really big thing. That was how my salon name was created.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I grew up like most little girls always playing with dolls. I loved doing their hair. So while in high school I learned that we had a cosmetology program and decided to sign up for it in the 11th grade. After my first year, I decided to continue with getting the rest of my hours to be able to take my state board testing at the end of my senior year. That’s how I got started in the hair industry.
As a hairstylist today I’ve learned that most stylist typically find their niche and stick with that. So, what makes us stand out from others is that we provide a variety of services and service a range of different clientele.
Right now, I am mostly proud of starting my business and being in business for a year now. This is something that I was scared to do and I’m proud to be able to say that I started and that it is continuing to grow.
If there was something that I would want you guys to take away is that I am passionate about what I do. Also that I try my best to serve and meet the needs of every client that I meet.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
My clients helped with building my reputation. I get a lot of clients through word of mouth.

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
I am a reader. Books have definitely helped with improving my people skills and how to go about building my business and having more of an entrepreneurial mindset. Here are a couple that has helped along the way Atomic Habits, Skills with People, How to Win Friends and Influence People, The Slight Edge, and etc…..
I also take a lot of classes as well to learn more about my industry in terms of growing the business as well.
