We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Wendy Foster a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Wendy, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
I lost a brother right at the beginning of Covid. Painting provided the solace I needed, working through the timeless and impossible question of Why?
Wendy, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’ve always been a creative, carving out spaces in my bedroom. My family would go fishing, I’d go to art classes. I’d shelve it at times but it would come back. I’ve maintained a studio since 1998.
Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
If you are a creative, you can’t not create. Maybe doodling on a placemat, maybe messing around with a short story. Creatives can help other people look at some thing in a different way.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I had left my regular job and was shopping galleries out of state. I mentioned when I returned, I would need to find some pick up work he suggested in the vent company. I worked there for two years before starting my own for the longest time it was the perfect combination of creativity, artistic expression, and a viable business.
