We were lucky to catch up with Wendy Alcala recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Wendy thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Are you able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen?
Earning a full-time living from my creative work has been a journey, not an overnight success. I’ve been in the field since I was 11 years old. While acting has always been a goal, my income has come from a mix of content creation, brand collaborations, and media opportunities that have allowed me to build a sustainable career along with a 9-5 here and there.
It definitely wasn’t like that from day one. I started small, creating UGC content, working on Amazon reviews, and collaborating with beauty and fashion brands on my social media. Those early projects helped me develop my portfolio and fine tune my skills.
As I gained experience, I expanded into different niches—leveraging my bilingual skills to work on different film sets, assisting talent with Spanish-language delivery, and taking on more performance-based roles. Over time, I refined my strategy, increased my rates, while also ensuring I was valuing my time and work appropriately.
Diversifying my income has been key. Beyond content creation, I’ve incorporated travel and lifestyle partnerships, giving me more financial flexibility to pursue creative projects.
Could I Have Sped Up the Process?
Absolutely. If I could do it over, I would:
Define my personal brand sooner to attract more targeted opportunities.
Leverage social media and being consistent in posting to reach more acting opportunities.
Build a team faster to help with outreach, negotiations, and scaling my work.
Not being afraid of failure and just going for it.
While it’s taken time to get here, I’m proud of the momentum I’ve built. With each project, I’m getting closer to making my creative work a full-time reality.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hi! I’m Wendy Alcala, a content creator, actress, and media personality passionate about beauty, fashion, and travel. My journey into this industry started with a love for storytelling—whether through visuals, performance, or creative collaborations. Over time, I’ve built a brand that blends my experience in front of the camera with my ability to create engaging, high-quality content for brands and audiences alike.
I provide a mix of services, including:
Content Creation & UGC – I help brands bring their products to life through authentic, high-converting video content, whether it’s beauty tutorials, fashion hauls, or lifestyle storytelling.
Acting & Performance – From commercial work to voiceovers and bilingual on-camera delivery, I bring personality and professionalism to every project.
Social Media Influence – I collaborate with brands to create engaging campaigns that resonate with audiences, driving brand awareness and conversions.
What Sets Me Apart?
Bilingual & Culturally Versatile – Being fluent in both English and Spanish allows me to connect with diverse audiences and work on international campaigns.
Authenticity & Engagement – I focus on creating content that feels real and relatable, not just promotional. My audience trusts my recommendations because they know I only align with brands I genuinely believe in.
Aesthetic Meets Strategy – While I love beautiful visuals, I also understand the business side of content creation—optimizing videos for engagement, conversions, and long-term brand impact.
What I’m Most Proud Of
I’m proud of the collaborations I’ve built with brands that trust me to represent their products in an authentic and engaging way. Whether it’s working with beauty giants, fashion labels, or lifestyle brands, I love being part of campaigns that inspire and inform. I’m also proud of the creative freedom I’ve cultivated, allowing me to merge my love for media, acting, and content creation into a fulfilling career.
What I Want People to Know
Whether you’re a brand looking for a fresh voice to bring your product to life or a follower seeking beauty, fashion, and travel inspiration, my goal is to provide value, authenticity, and creativity in everything I do. I love connecting with my audience, sharing my journey, and helping brands tell their stories in a way that feels natural and engaging.
Let’s create something amazing together!
How did you build your audience on social media?
Building my audience on social media has been a journey of consistency, authenticity, and strategy. When I first started, I focused on creating content that I genuinely loved—beauty, fashion, and travel—while also paying close attention to what resonated with my audience.
At first, I experimented a lot, posting different styles of content to see what worked. As I started working with brands and creating UGC (User-Generated Content), I realized the power of engaging, natural-feeling videos. That’s when I leaned into storytelling and relatability, making sure my content wasn’t just about showcasing products but also about connecting with people.
Collaborations also played a big role in growing my platform. By working with reputable brands and delivering high-quality content, I built credibility and attracted more opportunities. Over time, I refined my style, stayed consistent, and focused on providing value—whether it was beauty tips, styling inspo, or travel recommendations.
Advice for Those Just Starting:
Find Your Niche & Be Authentic – Don’t try to be everything to everyone. Pick a niche that excites you, and let your personality shine through. People follow people, not just content.
Be Consistent – Growth takes time. Show up regularly, whether it’s posting a few times a week or daily. The more consistent you are, the more trust you build with your audience.
Engage & Build Community – Respond to comments, interact with other creators, and foster genuine connections. Social media isn’t just about numbers; it’s about relationships.
Create High-Quality, Scroll-Stopping Content – Good lighting, clear audio, and engaging visuals make a difference. But don’t overthink it—sometimes, raw and real content performs best.
Leverage Trends, But Stay True to Yourself – Trends can boost visibility, but make sure to add your unique twist so your content stands out.
Be Patient & Keep Learning – Growth won’t happen overnight, but if you stay consistent, adapt, and keep improving, you’ll see results.
Social media is always evolving, but the key is to stay authentic, provide value, and enjoy the process. If you love what you do, your audience will feel it too!
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Yes! Looking back, there are definitely resources I wish I had known about earlier in my creative journey. These would have saved me time, helped me scale faster, and given me a clearer roadmap for success.
Some Game-Changing Resources:
Content Creation & Editing Apps – Learning how to edit high-quality videos early on would have been a huge advantage. Apps like CapCut, InShot, and iMovie make editing seamless, while Canva is perfect for designing eye-catching thumbnails and graphics.
UGC & Influencer Platforms – I wish I had tapped into platforms like JoinBrands and AspireIQ sooner. These connect creators with brands for paid collaborations, which would have helped me land opportunities faster.
Analytics & SEO Tools – Understanding how content performs is key to growth. Instagram Insights, TikTok Creator Center, and vidIQ (for YouTube) help track performance and optimize content for better engagement.
Networking & Community Groups – Connecting with other creators earlier would have made a huge difference. Facebook groups, Discord communities, and even local creator meetups provide opportunities to learn, collaborate, and grow together.
Contracts & Pricing Guides – Knowing my worth from the start would have saved me from undercharging. Websites like The Influencer League and Collabstr offer pricing insights, while resources like The Creator’s Legal Guide help with contracts and negotiations.
Online Courses & Masterclasses – Investing in education is a game-changer. Platforms like Domestika, Skillshare, and even YouTube tutorials offer valuable insights on branding, content strategy, and monetization.
What I’ve Learned:
If I could go back, I’d tell myself to use these tools earlier, be more strategic, and treat content creation like a business from day one. The sooner you invest in learning and optimizing your workflow, the faster you’ll see results!
