We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Wei Zhang. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Wei below.
Wei, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
I recently worked on a product design project for 2023 Wellness Summit. Based on the wellness trend report and research we’ve done so far, as teamwork, we decided to create a campaign for underwater AR goggles. We built our own wholesale brand WYTH. This is the second project I did after I am in the Advertising program at SCAD. I build the product from scratch and promote the whole campaign which engages me like ever before. I learned how to research, how to calculate price/cost, and improve my skill as a video editor. I get to know the two sides of advertising which tie to business and visual design. I am excited to learn how to put our design into use as a designer.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I started to learn how to paint at 12. Originally born in China, I moved oversea to pursue M.A. in painting at SCAD. During my program, I found my interest in editorial illustration and design, so I applied to M.F.A Advertising at SCAD last year and start my new journey. I literally do everything including traditional painting and software design like 2D design, motion and video. I have not found my interest in the wide field of design. I am good at listening and working efficiently. Well-organized habit helps me do a better design job. I think I can adapt to any new environment and skills kit quickly.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
To be honest, I started with painting as my creative journey, but I don’t like it from the beginning. Disciplines in China sometimes left me no choice. So I learn how to paint for 13 years for higher education until I was admitted by SCAD. So my particular goal is special which is to find what is my passion.
Alright – so here’s a fun one. What do you think about NFTs?
NFTs was a hot topic in my first year of the painting program. That is the reason that I learned the Procreate program. I didn’t believe NFTs can be mainstream. However, with the emergence of AI and Chatgpt, it seems to be the time to embrace the shift and technology.
