We were lucky to catch up with Wei Bertram recently and have shared our conversation below.
Wei, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
Growing up in Shanghai, China, was a wonderfully enlightening experience. Not only did I have a very loving and caring family, but I found myself heavily influenced by the traditional Chinese culture and customs around me, including the vast world of Chinese medicine and drinking tea as a daily routine. From the very beginning, my parents supported my individuality and taught me how important it was to listen to my heart. They always told me that they trusted whatever choices I made for myself and encouraged me to follow my heart and my passion. Even when I came to this country by myself, over thirty years ago, I feel like I carried them with me while continually receiving their blessings.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I grew up in Shanghai, where I was instilled with a sense of values of preventative care towards health and longevity, as well as an appreciation of our connection with Nature. Traditional Chinese culture always integrates that sense of connection and a meditative approach into every aspect of life, whether it is art or cooking or medicine. I’ve always loved the tea and wellness culture in China, which is why I am helping to bring it forth in US culture today.
The frenzied pace of modern American life results in many of us operating on overdrive. Learning to slow down and appreciate the moment through the simple act of enjoying a cup of tea can benefit your whole being. In truth, many of the ailments of modern-day life can be remedied or alleviated by implementing the wise tenets of Chinese medicine. A core part of our mission as a holistic healing center is to bridge the gap between Eastern and Western medicine and adapt traditional treatments and herbal remedies to suit modern needs. To that end, we offer a comprehensive program of holistic and integrative therapies, including Acupuncture, Massage & Bodywork, Private Yoga, Organic Facials, Energy Healing, and Wellness Education
We are a family business and have been in Westport, CT, since 1997. My husband, Gregor Bertram, has grown up here, can relate to our clientele, and get to know them and their whole family. Gregor is a licensed Acupuncturist and National Board Certified in Chinese Pharmacology, and we often work together to develop Arogya’s signature healing teas, herbal supplements, and botanical CBD blends. Our combined experience in Chinese medical philosophy, herbalism, and aromatherapy allows us to create custom programs that address the unique needs of our clients.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Word of mouth. Building relationships with like-minded people who are passionate about spreading words of wellness has been essential. They appreciate how much our services and products have helped their quality of life. When their friends and family ask them what they do that makes them look and feel so good, their answers are very natural.
Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
We have many interesting entrepreneurial and uniquely successful clients who come to visit us at Arogya. I will always remember when I asked a particularly successful client what would be the best investment for an individual to make, since he had built his wealth around making some very wise financial strategic decisions. His answer surprised me, because he said rather than learning what to buy or sell and when to buy or sell, your best investment is always to invest in yourself. Learning various skill sets to make you stand out and investing in your own well-being will sustain good health in the mind, body, and spirit to allow for unlimited opportunity.
