We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Weegi Wizers a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Weegi, appreciate you joining us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
My mission statement is to encourage love in broken spirits, believe it or not I used to be a dark tormented person. Back in 2014, I was battling a crippling depression and chronic insomnia. I wouldn’t eat, didn’t care at all about my appearance, or hygiene it was literal hell inside my mind. Later on that same year my close cousin Dante took his own life and it was a devastating wake up call. I vowed to change my way of thinking and went on a spiritual journey of healing and understanding. Fast forward to today my creations are about uplifting and inspiring the masses to love themselves and the life they were blessed with. I want that person going through crippling depression and chronic insomnia to see all the beautiful things life has to offer them. I want them to realize the power within themselves and understand if I can drag myself out that abyss so can you.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I got into my craft at a young age, as an adolescent I would watch Soul Train, Saturday Mornings with my family over a plate of eggs and bacon on a tiny 12 inch antenna tv you constantly had to move in order to get a signal. I always knew I wanted to be an artist and performer.
I would write poems and raps in a yellow composition notebook at nine years old. Imitate Andre 3000’s performance in the “Hey Ya“ music video, created remixes to my favorite songs etc.
My hobby eventually turned into a career path I went to networking events, conferences, anywhere I could soak up knowledge about the music business. I read numerous books on the subject until I was well versed in the industry’s jargon and practices.
In 2021, I made my music business official and got my LLC since then, I have been laser focused on spreading my message to the masses and cultivating an ecosystem that pour will into me so I can pour back into them.
I think what separates me from other creatives is my fearless approach to be my authentic self. My art is an amalgamation of my influences from Hip Hop, House Music, Disco, Soul, and Pop. I got a voice and message that stands out, you can hear me and be like “Yeah that’s Weegi” instantly.
I’m most proud of my commitment to my craft. I never gave up, constantly evolved, and now I’m reaping the benefits of that hard work. I did 11 shows this year, and I plan on doing a lot more. I’m in a great place in life right now and it’s only going to get better from here.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I had to unlearn my distrust for people. I grew up in survival mode, I was told not to trust anybody and everybody has a secret agenda. This is a detrimental mindset to have. Collaboration and shared expertise is what people do at the top. The jealousy, envy, sabotage all happens at the bottom. Get far away from people who possess those traits. Find some people you can trust.

How did you build your audience on social media?
It was a combination of going out and building a community in real life, and letting that transfer to my online presence and utilizing the ad tools to target an audience I believe would connect with the art. It’s important to know who your audience is so you can tailor your content with them in mind. It will connect more with them, and make them avid consumers if you engage with them constantly.
