We were lucky to catch up with Wayne Williams recently and have shared our conversation below.
Wayne, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
My Story is quite interesting. I started my podcast with Myself and two other co – hosts. One was a friend and the other was a female I meet in Starbucks actually. It was pretty interesting at first and the chemistry was great. Yet, after a few episodes I began to learn it was a challenge for who is more Alpha out of the two fellas. My female co host was holding back in conversations and opinions. Long story short after about 10 Episodes it had to come to an end. It started to become toxic and it was so many differences. It was a difficult decision for me as I grew accustomed to our group and their input on topics. My co- host also was responsible for our camera guy we were working with at the time. It wasn’t easy for me to run the show alone. I even brought on a friend to attempt to keep it going. I didn’t want to face my fears of doing it by myself. My friend and I did about 3 episodes together until she had to leave as well due to her personal reasons. Once again I’m in a bind and I was already building up a following at this point. I couldn’t just stop. I had to dig deep and put on my big boy shoes and push through fear or not. I then scheduled my first One on One interview with Chaos from Grind Mode who had hit Single ” I’m so High ” I was so nervous but as I was doing the interview I started to feel this isn’t that hard as I was thinking it would be.
In essence What do I think it takes to be successful is being able to push pass fear. Fear is an indication of something you should be doing. It’s the step towards your personal growth. It’s only going to make you better in the end. Learn how to delegate, You must figure out your strengths and your weakness early. This way what ever you are not good at you can hire someone who is already efficient in that area. Which is why you must make time to network. Go out there to events and get to know people. It’s not always about what you know but its about who you know.
Wayne, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I have always been a talker, very opinionated and my perspective was always different. My cousin one day said cuz you need to start your own Podcast. I didn’t give it much thought at first but then eventually it hit me. This world we live is such in the grey area. I see things mostly black and white. I then decided to Talk Grey through Black and white lenses. This is how I Talk Grey began. My platform discusses Topics ranging from relationship drama such trauma bonds, Insight from real estate investors and spiritual advisors and a bit of trendy topics such as ” Do we still listen to R Kelly”. I talk about it all and you can catch me on platforms such as Anchor, I Heart Radio , Spotify , Apple Podcast , Google Podcast , YouTube to just name a few.
The problems I solve is allowing my listeners to see you can be yourself. You can be Human. You can have fun on the weekend and attend that real estate webinar the next day. You can speak your truth without being afraid of being cancelled.
I speak what I feel. I don’t sensor my words in fear of what others my think. If I’m wrong , I’m wrong and I can learn from my mistakes. No one is without flaws. I believe this is what separate’s me from others. My conversations are diverse. I step outside of the box.
This is what I am most proud of. I can go from a podcast setting too a one on one personal interview with a music artist or business owner or too the red carpet providing Media Coverage for some of the hottest events held in South Florida.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
When setting up your podcast it will teach you about your strengths and weaknesses. I attempted to do a lot of the work myself not wanting to rely on people. I learned over time that you need a team. Most of the time you would want your team too be people you know, yet it doesn’t work like that in most cases. I now believe in hiring the right people to get the job done. I am good when it comes to networking but I suck at technical things and paper work. My lesson was too not waste time and learning to accept that you will not be good at everything. Its ok to delegate work so this can move your business further into the direction of success.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I have been doing my podcast for about two years now and even though I’ve lost co – host’s I continue to keep the movement going and found ways to keep my show relevant. Its actually not as easy to have co host’s to be honest. Personalities can clash, people may have a sense of entitlement, hidden agendas to use your energy and attempt to build else where, lack of communication etc. etc. and the list goes on. It can be frustrating at times but I had to learn no one is going to go as hard as you. I continue to push the brand forward despite the set backs. I am a firm believer in not rushing the process. Take your time and stick too the grind and know somedays will be harder but its always a lesson in the end.
