We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Wayne Moran a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Wayne, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
I am a Christian, believing in the God of the Bible. So everything I do is directed by what I read and learn in the Bible. The God of the Bible is the God of Creation, and He says His Creation is good. So I have taken it upon myself to explore that wild magnificent creation. There is sooooooooooooo much to see. And yes, I admit my best joy comes from exploring places that are less explored, more pristine, and certainly beautiful. So I get to go to these glorious places, take them in, explore them and experience them as slowly as possible so that I deeply richly experience the place.
Then I need to attempt to capture the place that I am seeing. In these huge magnificent places, that task is very difficult to capture what the eye and mind is able to take in. I capture these places in a way that moves people, to make them think that they have actually experienced the place.
And finally I teach others to both explore these areas in a respectable way and also capture them in a beautiful way. I create lovers of God’s creation.

Wayne, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
As a Minnesota based landscape and travel photographer, I focus my skills and energies on landscapes, cityscapes, architectural and nature photography.
My best work comes from images first painted in my mind. I mull over a prospective image for weeks or months, seeing it from different angles and perspectives, then I finally decide what to capture and I take action. The result is images that deeply touch a person’s emotions and powerfully evoke memories and dreams.
My images are used commercially by book and magazine publishers, companies and organizations ranging from Financial Services firms, mom and pop Ice Cream shops and The Basilica of St Mary. The images are used to communicate our shared vision and values. Book, magazine and calendar publishers have featured my images in their publications and on their covers. My photographs also grace and enhance the décor of many fine homes.
Wayne Moran’s Full Biography
I was born in southern California the middle of five children. I loved to camp in the mountains and swim in the ocean. We moved to central Minnesota to be closer to family and I finished up grade school and high school there.
I graduated from the University of St. Thomas, St. Paul, MN with a degree in Mathematics and Air Force ROTC studies and a concentration in Physics, Computer Science and Music.
I met my wife in college while singing in the college choir and started dating after singing at a fellow choir member’s wedding. We married one year after college while I was in the Air Force and we moved to New Hampshire.
I Entered the Air Force after college and became a weather officer. Remember Tom Clancy’s book “Red Storm Rising” The weather officer character was me.
After the Air Force we moved back to Minnesota to raise our growing family and I became a software engineer.
I became a Christian in 1993 through the ministry of KTIS Christian radio and the Holy Spirit. I have always been interested in issues of faith and belief and that is what you will find frequently discussed in this blog.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I am in the process of pivoting right now. I have been a software engineer all of my career while also attempting to be a full time photographer. I think it is time to stop all the Corporate American Software work and pursue my photography career full time. This is of course scary and invigorating all at the same time.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My goal is to travel to all of the most amazing beautiful places in the world then to capture them in unique and spectacular ways. And then, to start leading other people on adventures to these same places.
I hope I will see many of you in an adventure to come.
