Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Waya Boy. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Waya, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
My Journey to Becoming a Creative
Growing up surrounded by music sparked my passion for the arts. In grade 6, I joined the dance group “Light Fact,” where I taught myself dance moves from YouTube videos and movies like Step-Up. My dedication paid off, and by 2016, Josh Kiyegga, the group’s owner, noticed my skills in breakdancing and B-boying, inviting me to join the group.
Finding My Voice
In grade 7 (2017), I began writing music, and my creative journey took shape. During my second year of college, I released my first demo song, marking the beginning of my music career. The COVID-19 pandemic presented challenges, but I persevered, walking 20 kilometers to record my first single, “Hullo,” in 2020.
Pursuing My Passion
After college, I faced challenges sustaining myself with odd jobs, but music remained my driving force. I continued releasing new music, determined to make my mark. Today, I’m proud to have come this far, and I’m excited to see where my creative journey takes me.
Overcoming Challenges
Despite limited resources, I created my first projects using a Nokia cell phone and FL Studio on an HP laptop. This DIY approach allowed me to develop my skills and produce music despite financial constraints.
Building a Brand
I founded Waya Boy Music Worldwide to manage my brand and share my music with the world. This platform enables me to connect with fans and showcase my artistry.
Giving Back
Recognizing the challenges faced by emerging artists, I established Isong Records to provide support and resources. Additionally, I founded the World Charity Fund organization to make a positive impact on the community and help those in need.
