We recently connected with Wavy Angel and have shared our conversation below.
Wavy, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
The most meaningful project I’m currently working on is a Salvadoran-themed photoshoot, deeply inspired by the stories my great grandma used to tell me about her life in El Salvador. It’s a personal tribute to the resilience, beauty, and vibrancy of the country, and a way to honor where I come from.
The concept for this shoot came from a deep desire to reconnect with my culture and share it in a way that’s unapologetically Salvadoran. So much of my artistic journey has been about blending different elements—light, emotion, color—and this project does just that. I’m focusing on capturing not only the visual beauty of Salvadoran culture but also the spirit of the people—the strength, warmth, and traditions that have been passed down through generations.
A lot of the inspiration for this shoot comes from the stories of my great grandma, who grew up in a small pueblo, living on farms. She would tell me how she met my great grandpa, who lived just down the hill, and how they built their life together in that tight-knit community. Those stories of simplicity, resilience, and connection are at the heart of this project. Through this photoshoot, I want to capture the richness of Salvadoran life, from the vibrant colors to the deep emotional connection to the land and each other.
This project is close to my heart because it’s not just a photoshoot—it’s a love letter to my ancestors and a way to inspire others who might feel disconnected from their roots. By sharing the beauty of Salvadoran culture with a wider audience, I hope to create a deeper understanding of what makes our community so special. I want people to feel that connection to the land, the simplicity, and the resilience that define Salvadoran people. And most importantly, I want to inspire others to dig into their own roots, find the stories that shaped them, and share them in whatever creative way they can.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
For those who don’t know me yet, my name’s Wavy Angel, and I’m a passionate photographer and visual artist based in Los Angeles. My journey into photography started when I was 18 and living in my car. It was a difficult time, but it was also the moment I found photography as a way to express myself and share my vision with the world. Over time, that passion grew into something bigger.
Since then, I’ve expanded my work across various styles, from portrait and event photography to my more recent love for stained glass art. No matter the medium, my focus is always on capturing the raw, real emotions of people and places. I’m hands-on in everything I do, whether it’s lighting a set to get the perfect shot or working meticulously on a stained glass piece. Every project is an opportunity to tell a story that resonates on a deeper level.
What sets me apart is my mission to inspire a community of creatives by showing that no one is alone in their struggles. My art is a reflection of my journey, and I want to create a space where people feel seen and understood. I approach each project with the same dedication, always aiming to create something meaningful that speaks to the heart.
In a world where everything can feel overly polished, I focus on authenticity. Whether it’s a personal portrait, a wedding, or a branded shoot, I want my clients to see themselves in their most authentic light. My attention to detail and love for light and color are what set my work apart.
One of the things I’m most proud of is the resilience it took to get here. From starting out living in my car to going full-time freelance, every step has been about pushing through challenges and staying true to my vision.
At the core of my brand is a desire to spread love, creativity, and wisdom. I want people to know that when they work with me, they’re getting someone who’s not only passionate about their craft but also deeply committed to building a community of authenticity and connection. Whether through photography or stained glass, my work is about more than just creating—it’s about inspiring others to dig into their own stories and share them with the world.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
The core mission driving my creative journey is to inspire and build a community of authenticity, creativity, and resilience. I’ve always believed that art has the power to connect people, especially during their most challenging times. For me, it’s about showing that no matter where you come from or what struggles you’re facing, there’s beauty in your story. I want my work to serve as a reminder that no one is alone in their journey.
At the heart of it all is my desire to spread love and wisdom. I want people to feel empowered to express themselves, to dig deep into their own stories, and share them with the world in whatever creative way they can. My mission isn’t just about creating beautiful art—it’s about building a community where creativity thrives, where people support each other, and where no one feels alone in their struggles.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
One of the moments that really tested my resilience as an artist happened early in my career when I accidentally dropped my camera. It was one of those heart-stopping moments where everything slows down, and you know it’s going to be bad. My camera, which was basically my livelihood, took a serious hit. I couldn’t afford to replace it right away, so I had to improvise.
For the next couple of months, I walked around with glue and a screwdriver, literally holding my camera together during shoots. If I was working with a model, I’d time the outfit changes for when the lens would start coming loose, giving me a chance to quickly fix it while they changed. It became part of the workflow—I’d shoot, adjust, and then shoot some more, making sure the camera could hold up long enough to finish the session.
It wasn’t easy, but there was no way I was going to let a broken camera stop me from doing what I loved. I kept pushing through, doing whatever it took to make sure I could still deliver quality work. Now, when I look back at that time, it reminds me that even when things fall apart—literally—you can still find a way to make it work. That’s the same energy I carry into every project today. It’s not about the gear; it’s about the passion and the determination to keep creating, no matter what challenges come your way.
