We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Walyaira Irizarry. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Walyaira below.
Hi Walyaira, thanks for joining us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I was always involved in every artistic program that existed at school. Since I was little I was involved in music, whether it was in the choir, a dance group, a talent show or musical theater. But I never saw myself making a living from music. That was forged along the way. I believe that the love I feel for this career does not allow me to work in anything else but this. There is nothing on this planet that makes me happier than doing what I do. For me, this creative stage of composing and writing my thoughts and turning them into songs is the most beautiful stage I have experienced in my entire professional career in this art called music.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
In 2019, when my grandmother passed away, I decided to return full time to the music industry from the business side. I studied Entertainment Business and Music Production & Audio Engineering, but while I was doing so, I was rediscovering myself and couldn’t let go of the creative side. I founded DIME Records with Oscar Martinez, who is the CEO of DIME Records and also my Road Manager. He has been a key part of the company’s success. DIME Records was founded to help emerging artists develop their artistic careers and shape their expectations to have more realistic results and successful growth. DIME Records is a multimedia company that not only produces artists but also helps them manage their careers effectively so that they can establish their professional careers on their own.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
This is a difficult question, this is about love for art. I am sure that all my colleagues will agree, this is not done for business or for money, although if we were not paid we would not eat. Music is part of the sentimental and emotional influence of the human being and the greatest satisfaction is that your work reaches the hearts of many and they let you know. Without money to invest it is difficult to go very far but if your music is from the heart probably someone will listen to it one day and feel the same and then that will be the day you will get that reward you have been waiting for.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
What drives my creative journey is the love I have for music and entertainment. Art is a part of my life and it is what drives me to want to challenge myself with what I am capable of creating. I don’t want to limit myself, I don’t want to put barriers on myself, I don’t want to be afraid of being different.
