We were lucky to catch up with Walter Lovett recently and have shared our conversation below.
Walter, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What sort of legacy are you hoping to build. What do you think people will say about you after you are gone, what do you hope to be remembered for?
I hope that the legacy of this comic book series is that people will come to learn of the goodness and sovereignty of God. I write this series so that people can read and grasp the vast power of God and so that they know that they can experience this power through a relationship with him.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
The Watcher Comic Book Series has been a labor of love dating back to 2009. I had snippets of the story I wanted to tell however I was not in a good place spiritually to truly tell the story. In 2017 after years of struggling with pornography and addiction, I renewed my faith and relationship with God and was given a new direction and story to tell.
The Watcher Comic Book series deals with overcoming addiction, vices, and apathy in a wicked and ever-changing world. It teaches readers how to become biblical “watchmen” to bring much-needed justice and healing to our world while also being ambassadors for the Kingdom of God.
The series opens with a Human Trafficking cold case but expands to many other pertinent and real global issues such as dark money, redlining, occultism, eugenics, and more.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I hope that the legacy of this comic book series is that people will come to learn of the goodness and sovereignty of God. I write this series so that people can read and grasp the vast power of God and so that they know that they can experience this power through a relationship with him.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I’ve had to unlearn what my view of success is. For the longest time , I believed that my success as a writer was based around how much money I made and how famous I was. As I have continued to write and publish this series, I have seen that success is actually seeds that have been sown that effect readers in a positive way,
During my comic con appearances, I have had the opportunity to connect with readers who have told me that the work that I have written and published has encouraged them to pick up and read God’s word for themselves. The reward of this information and insight has helped me push through some of my companies darkest moments.
