We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Walter Fredericks. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Walter below.
Walter, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I have been writing creatively since I was 9 years old. I am a movie buff. After college I knew I wanted to make movies and television projects.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I was born and raised in Harlem, NY. The oldest of 6 six children. Growing up, I was regarded as one of the best basketball players in New York City. Everyone believed I would go to the NBA. When my NBA dreams faded, I focused on the entertainment industry. I wrote my first novel in 2002. After receiving critical acclaim for my work, I dove into screenwriting. In 2009, I wrote my first screenplay and that ultimately grew to over 20 written projects to date. This includes feature films, television sitcoms, dramas, as well as reality television, home renovation, and travel shows. Within the last calendar year, I have have my hand in either creating, writing, and/or producing 12 feature films and a television series. All of which have been greenlit by networks and streaming platforms. On the surface, it looks easy, but this process has had it’s trials and tribulations. What I’m most proud of is my focus, discipline, and mental fortitude to overcome doubt, personal and professional obstacles.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist/creative is seeing your vision, your characters, your words come to fruition. Most creatives dream of their work coming to life, but more often than not that doesn’t happen. I have been fortunate enough to see multiple projects I’ve created, developed, and produced be showcased on the big screen.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My mission in my creative journey is to create, develop, and produce content that reaches viewers from all facets of society. My projects will be innovative, diverse and versatile. My goal is to cement myself as one of the most sought after, hard working, and recognizable creatives of my generation. This will allow me to uplift and showcase creatives under my professional umbrella.
