We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Walter Dozier . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Walter below.
Walter , appreciate you joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
I created Dozier Productions in the last semester of my senior year at North Carolina Central University (NCCU). I wanted to create something where I could create various content for people and be a blessing to others at the same time. Pretty much, I took Marvel’s Avengers concept and applied it to my business. Multiple superheroes kill the game alone and are unstoppable when together. That’s what makes Dozier Productions stand out from other photographers and or videographers.
I put people in a position to work with me and create dope content. Yes, I am a business owner and the objective is to be profitable, but it’s more than that in my eyes. The money is going to come regardless is how I view it. I just focus on being the best at what I do and put a smile on people’s faces while doing it. The rest will take care of itself. I love what I do, and love seeing people’s reactions to the final product of something I created.
Dozier Productions has given me the opportunity to bring people on my team, create and produce some amazing work, and give my fellow creatives opportunities to be successful on their own. My faith and relationship with Jesus is the reason why I am in the position I’m in today, me knowing how to use my cameras is just the added bonus.
Walter , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m just the kid from Raleigh North Carolina living out his dreams. Honestly, I had a late start getting into the Cinematography and Photography game. I’ve always had my hands in different things growing up, you know a little bit of this and a little bit of that.
Taking pictures or recording people was just a hobby and was something cool to do. I knew I was good at it but I never saw myself making it my career. I was afraid that if I made it my “job” then I would get burned out quick and lose the excitement for it. It wasn’t until my Junior year of college, at the Illustrious North Carolina Central University, in Durham North Carolina, that I started to tap into my potential.
I originally was a Business Major, trying to be like everyone else in my family instead of creating my own path. All I was thinking about was I’m going to get this Business degree, join the corporate world and get this money. But I always would take photos and videos of my friends on campus, or during family events. I realized I needed to stop sitting on the gift God blessed me with.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I believe my ability to be authentic and being myself has help me build and maintain Dozier Productions reputation. I’m big on customer service, and capturing the clients special moment. Most of my clientele comes from referrals or someone will walk up to me in the middle of a shoot and want to work with me just because of how I interacted with my clients and they see the fun and atmosphere I create while capturing moments.
Everyone seems to have a camera now a days and do what I do. It intimidates some, but for me I love it! The competition if I could use that word makes me get better daily.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
If you know me then you know family is everything to me. And I’ll tell anyone my family, my village is the reason why I go so hard and do what I do. They’re my daily motivation. I’ve been getting a lot of praise and accolades lately, which is cool and all but I’m forever humble. All that noise doesn’t phase me, is it cool absolutely but I don’t put much into it.
Im just a reflection of the people of the people who believe in me and cared about me. I take credit for the work that I do but ultimately it took a lot of people to get me here. I tell people all the time “favor ain’t fair but I sure will use it”. My faith and relationship with Jesus plays a huge role as well. I am nothing without him and he gets all the glory and praise.
