Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Walker Harris. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Walker, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
The story behind the mission of my business is a fun one! I used to work at a thrift store, shout out to Lost n Found in Atlanta, and part of my job was to go through donations, which were both used and new items, and due to the high volume of donations I would sometimes have to throw stuff away. Trashing stuff that was still in good or new condition felt so wrong because someone could definitely still want them! I would even see donations that were vintage which I thought was so cool and would make sure those were put on the sales floor because they deserved to go to a new person too! I would even keep the pieces that I thought were cool, like troll dolls and VHS tapes, and sometimes give them as gifts to friends and family. I even noticed the same people coming in to shop, more than the regulars, and caught on to what they were doing: reselling!
When I left the company I decided to start reselling clothing and collectibles on my own, with my mission being to re-home items, mostly vintage items, that were still in good condition. By doing this, I help prevent wearable vintage secondhand clothing and collectables from being added to the already-overflowing landfills and clogging our planet even more!

Walker, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Walker Harris and I’m the owner of Lights, camera, vintage! I source and resell vintage (and modern!) items such as clothing, collectables and physical media to the Atlanta community. I’m the only star of the show and to keep things simple I only source what I know sells and what I like to collect because I might want to keep something in my collection for a while! I’m most proud of helping keep these items from being thrown away and letting them have more time to shine with someone else.

Have you ever had to pivot?
In the beginning I only sourced strictly vintage items because that’s what I was most passionate about and the reason for starting to resell, but once I noticed more and more people becoming resellers in this niche I decided to branch out and source both new and modern items too. For example, not many people know the difference between vintage and modern clothing, and don’t really care to, so if I see a piece of clothing or a collectable that I know is modern and think it will sell I get it.

How did you build your audience on social media?
I’m a creative outside of this business and wanted to build an audience for it, so I simply started to create videos that resonate with me and my interests in the vintage niche and the followers found me! I just have fun with it!
