We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful WALKELLIA MILLEDGE. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with WALKELLIA below.
Alright, WALKELLIA thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Alright, so you had your idea and then what happened? Can you walk us through the story of how you went from just an idea to executing on the idea
Well I like to think of myself as a Serial-Prenuer, simlpy because I do various ventures. I always start anything I do with writing down my idea first. This makes it plan and clear to me. I believe anything that I can write down, see, and is tangible can be done. My theory is always plan, implement, then execute! I only want to do things that I absolutely love and that no only makes my clients happy but me as well. My Party Rental business kinda came from my first love which is children. I taught school for 9 years, therefore I love children and knew exactly waht they loved. I then started a custom print business. I’ve always been very creative plus it was another addition to my party business. My travel advisor business was a no brainer. My love for travel led me to do this. I have so many ideas in my head I have to let a few out from time to time LOL. I just don’t think that there’s anything that I CAN NOT do!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
As stated before, I’m a Serial-Prenuer. As far as my Party Rental business, I started with renting out Party Characters for children’s parties. I started this business because I was always that mom who went beyond extra when giving my children birthday parties, therefore I knew it would be lucrutive because there are so many other parents out there like me. Every year I would enhance my business by adding new items to the rental list (bounce houses, tables, concessions, etc.). My next business was a custom print business which also made sense and coincided with my party rental business. Again, I would get a shirt made for any/every occasion so I learned to make them myself and that’s how that business started, besides who doesn’t need a shirt to match their party theme. While starting this business I also became a travel advisor. This venture made the most sense of all. I’ve been traveling the bulk of my life and planning most of the vacations with family and friends. This is something I absolutely love doing. I love exploring different cultures, new advntures, and seeing new things along with exposing others to it so it only made sense for me to be a travel advisor. It’s my PASSION!
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn that all of my support would come from people who I know. Don’t get me wrong, my family and friends have supported my throughout the years, however the bulk of my support comes from people who I’ve never known in life. I relearned that support comes from afar and goes a long way. People see your passion, they see what you have to offer, and they are willing to take a chance with you; therefore, my clients will always receive all of me. I know that people entrust me and are willing to gamble with me and I don’t take that for granted at all. I assure that I show all of my clients appreciation and let them know how much they mean to me. Ultimately without them, none of my businesses would be here and still going.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I built my businesses primarily on social media. I’m so grateful for these outlets. When used properly, you can generate all types of business and meet new people who are willing to network with you. When I initially started building my audience on social media, it was primarily family and friends. I then realized I have to do more. I began following like businesses and figured out my target audience. i would then go on to follow my target audience and post away. I’ve done give aways, ran specials, and post regularly to keep my audience engaged. Most of my business is from “word of mouth” and retunr clients. This is why it is so important for me to treat my clients well and go that extra mile for them. Excellent customer service skills alone will have your clients returning.
