We were lucky to catch up with Waliyah McCrary recently and have shared our conversation below.
Waliyah, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s jump right into the heart of things. Outsiders often think businesses or industries have much larger profit margins than they actually do – the reason is that outsiders are often unaware of the biggest challenges to profitability in various industries – what’s the biggest challenge to profitability in your industry?
In the world of crafting social media content, a big challenge is keeping up with the content creation whirlwind. Social media trends change faster than we can finish our morning coffee! Trying to establish and keep a connection with your audience is a continuous challenge in the rapidly evolving social media landscape.
I am rooted in providing and crafting intentional social media content strategies for the layered woman who is navigating home and business.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
In 2019, while driving for Lyft and Uber, I started coaching women who wanted to become entrepreneurs. At the beginning, I didn’t have a clear plan. I just shared motivational content and learned as I went along. Soon, I began creating e-books and documents, and before long, people started messaging me about coaching.
I developed a framework that helped women turn their talents into products and services, which they could then promote using a strong social media strategy. Within nine months, my community had grown to 10,000 followers. In just two years, it had grown to 50,000 followers, and I was making three times the income I had been making with Lyft and Uber.
As my business grew, I created intensive coaching programs that showed women how to create a unique offer that would earn them four to five-figure incomes every month.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
When I launched my first signature offer, I found out that I was pregnant and had to be on bed rest. Despite this, I was able to launch a five-figure campaign from my bed, which made me very proud. However, handling a successful service while coping with a challenging pregnancy made me wonder how women could manage to run businesses, create social media content, and intentionally raise children.
After giving birth, I learned that I was pregnant again. While facing difficulties in my son’s pregnancy, I realized that I needed to be intentional about my entire motherhood journey. I had to lead an intentional life to provide an intentional environment for my family.
For the past three years, I have had to make a significant pivot. I have developed a strategy to navigate being a stay-at-home mom and a social media content coach. The framework that helped me overcome the challenge of navigating home business and social media content is what I offer to women who are in similar circumstances as me. I take pride in consistently serving women who resonate with my journey.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
For those that are just starting on social media, I would suggest creating your customer profile, or client avatar based on your experiences. You have to be your very first customer and client. Think about your journey and take one specific thing that you struggled with and then think of the steps you took to solve it. That’s the first thing you need to offer to your audience.
I know when we look to build audiences, we think of entertainment and hooks and “it” factors. But your “it” factor Is the thing you can solve for other people.
To build credibility for a solution, people have to see what you have solved for yourself first.
