We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Wai Ching Schroeder a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Wai Ching , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
My True Passion is to make movies. I am a full form artist and a nurse.
From the year 2017 to 2022, I have created over 1000 pieces of paintings and 750 drawings crafted a distinctive style of my own. I am also a screenwriter. I sing, model and act.
Why I am driven to create and support my art and talent is to create a culture I envisioned full of love and creativity genuinely.

Wai Ching , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
“I believe artists are future leaders as we are the creative minds.
And I am a dreamer.”
My name is Wai Ching Schroeder. I grew up in a big family originated from Hong Kong. Due to family issues, I was driven to be financially independent since 11 while living under the same roof with my biological family. At age 12 in the year of 2000, I participated in Walt Disney World Millennium Celebration, which launched my journey to pursue my dreams. It was my very first step to America.
When I turned 17, I left home on my own with empty suitcases to come here on December 2005. It was a miracle. My religious teacher sent me straight to college. She was generously supported with $200 a month while I was working two jobs in the attending school and applied scholarships. I, therefore, obtained a nursing degree, graduated from Polk Community College and University of South Florida with high honors by 2010.
A few years ago from today, my teacher mentioned “It was God who told her to send me to America. She must.” Now, 17 years later, I am approaching 35 years old.
What have I accomplished?
I have been practicing as a registered nurse since 2009 with an emergency nursing certification. As my passion for living and experiencing life has driven me to travel, I have acquaintances across the world. I also worked as a medical officer on cruises where I have witnessed there is no law regulation in the international water.
Living in a foreign country, saving lives, speaking a third language, learning a different culture, and travelling around the world with the locals has given me rare opportunities to perceive the world in a unique horizon.
Since the end of 2016, I’ve started screenwriting. In the following April, I have picked up painting on canvases. What drives me to create is simply loneliness. My desire to feed my own void with purposes has reminded me to dream, as a dreamer.
My first art buyer gifted me an envelope titled “Free Spirit” when he purchased my artwork called “Arrows thru Heart”.
What does it mean to be free? Don’t be afraid. That’s probably the reason why I love to create.
It’s my pursuit of freedom. That’s the dream.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
My resilience story is that I work a lot as a nurse to support my art. Time is money. Promoting art is expensive. Like art festivals and art shows, it’s very costly to get in.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I think the most rewarding aspect of being an artist is to discover yourself and know your worth.
