Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Wa’Derrious Sellers. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Wa’Derrious thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
My latest ep dropped 2/22/22 and my album date is still tbd.The name of the Ep is called “The Story of a Black Sheep”. This ep has many different meanings and symbolism. My whole life I have been more of a leader than a follower. I would rather make my own trend then to follow one. This Ep is me telling the world my story and giving the world a breathe of fresh air with a different sound. I also feel like Huey P. Newton doesn’t get the credit he deserves in today’s time. When people talk about revolutionaries he is not mention enough and I’m about to change that. One thing I love about my music is that I don’t sound like anybody. My voice is very original , I have the ability to change up my flows on any beat, and I am very versatile and creative when I’m making a record. My most played records on my ep is Step produced by @clntfrd (produce for trey songs,Chris brown,Lil Gnar & many more )and my number #1 single Spare Nobody produced by my guy @HitmanAudio (Produced for NBA Young Boy,JaydaYoungan,Blac Youngsta & more ).
Wa’Derrious , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I Was born in Monroe, Louisiana, enduring a rough childhood where my siblings and I witnessed and survived the murder of our mother and uncle. I use music as therapy because, I believe music speaks where words fail. I look up to Huey P Newton, another Monroe native, and decided to take on his legacy, but with a musical twist. I am an ex collegiate athlete, known activist, artist, model and upcoming actor. My musical influences start back from early hip-hop such as Master P, A Tribe Called Quest, Tupac, & many more. I actually never envisioned myself doing music because football, was everything to me at a point of time in my life. I tore my shoulder my freshman year of college and that was an eye opener for me. I thought to myself what could, I possibly see myself doing for the rest of my life and actually enjoy doing it without football? I sat there by my bed side one night thinking of all the endless possibilities I could have for myself and then it hit me. I enjoy helping others, love poetry and music so, why not make poetic music that can help people get through their trials and tribulations? That is the path i chose to take with my musical talents reason being, I love to think deeply and i feel that one of my goals/ life purposes to help make people think again. What makes me different than other artist is, I have my own original sound and the content i talk about is much deeper than most artist. I love making music that you will listen to on the highway as you think about your life choices you made good or bad. I love to make people think outside the box instead of following the crowd and that def. sets me apart from the rest. The #1 thing that i am proud of is how many different people have reached out to me and told me my music has changed their lives. I would have never thought in a million years that I would be changing people lives through my new found love.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
The two books that changed my life forever is Revolutionary Suicide by Dr. HueyP. Newton & The Art of War by Sun Tzu. Huey P. Newton was one of the Co-Founders of the Black Panther Party. He was a very resilient, intelligent, loving, caring, black man who wanted better for his people by any means necessary. He help create programs the government demonized him for but, would eventually steal for their own use, such as the WIC program. The best part about this story is that i found out he was from my little hometown Monroe. Louisiana which motivated me on a whole another level. It gave me a confidence in myself that, you can make it from anywhere doing what you love, you just have to put the work in and believe in yourself. I also love the Art of War because, it teaches you how to control your emotions and always be 10 steps ahead of any situation. I live my life by alot of different principals in the book and I love the way the book change my process of thinking.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
The #1 goal that’s driving my mission is GOD. I know some people may not believe in a higher power but i most definitely do. I don’t believe in coincidences and I know somebody or something is watching over me in a positive way. The times in my life where I had near death experiences, felt like giving up, or whatever the case may be, In some miraculous way I made it out ok every time.
