We recently connected with Vy Luu and have shared our conversation below.
Vy, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Do you have a hero? What have you learned from them?
Within most aspect of my life, I’ve alway viewed my parents as my hero’s simply because of their selflessness, strong work ethics, and ability of adaptation.
Being immigrants, our family came to the U.S from Vietnam in 1998, in which my parents have sacrificed so much for a better future for me and my brothers. Leaving all they knew and family and going into the unknown, their sacrifice has shaped me into who I am today. They worked aimlessly to provide for us, these sacrifices ultimately made me appreciate the opportunity it’s of hard work and diligent.
Vy, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am the owner of Intimate Igloo, we are a minority female and small family business. We provide luxury pop-up igloo and bounce houses rental for large-scale events or intimate gatherings throughout DC, MD, and VA.
Our business was established in 2020 during the peak of COVID-19 as an innovative solution to social distancing/gathering. The business was wildly successful and continued to grow since then. We are constantly looking for partnership opportunities, collaborations within our industry and future market expansion.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
With starting any business or venture there’s so many uncertainties and risks involved. It’s more than just a financial investment, it’s also time and energy that makes your vision come to life. I started Intimate Igloo with $10,000 from my personal saving. With this initial investment, I was able to source inventory, website development, marketing, and all associated fees with legitimizing a business.
Because of the time sensitivity of being one of the first luxury pop-up igloo provider, I gave myself a strict one month plan to sources the igloo domes (which we started with just 2!) and all other inventory items from various vendors for the most cost effective approach. I also developed a professional booking and POS system all through the Intimate Igloo website to cut cost and achieved my desired timeline.
I utilized social media to market our products and gain attraction for the services.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Social media plays a huge part on our marketing effort and reach to different audiences. We built our social media following by hosting giveaways, collaborations with other businesses, and engaging with our followers.
We create an engaging atmosphere to humanize our brand and give our audience something to relate to, whether it is tips for small business, promoting other vendors, or engaging our audience for what they want to see Intimate Igloo do next.
