We recently connected with VSN and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, VSN thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
I learned how to do what I do off of me just being in love with music and an obsession to learn how my favourite songs were created and the ongoings in the music industry. I don’t necessarily feel like anything could have been done to speed up the process as it is a journey and everything I find happens in its own time as long as you stay motivated, driven and consistent. The skills I would deem as most essential are my problem solving skills and my ability to think outside the box. In addition to that, I believe my greatest skill is my perseverance with regards to working toward being a better artist/producer each and every day even in times where I doubt my abilities. I would say that my biggest obstacle would be the waves of self doubt that I find that every artist experiences. Falling victim to this self doubt inevitably limits the potential for greatness. I find that what’s important is to keep your eyes on the bigger picture and recognize that in every moment it is important to work toward achieving something that is outside of your comfort zone. I believe that overcoming these waves of self doubt is a foundational piece of every individual who achieves success.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
For those who do not know me I would introduce myself as a music producer and an a recording artist. I was born in Accra, Ghana moved to Canada in grade 7 did junior school in Hamilton, Ontario. Moved to Ottawa, did high school here (which is where my interest in music production begun) and then went to Carleton University to complete my Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science. That is where I met and got to know @RayBeats (Ottawa’s craziest producer duo) who honestly re-sparked my interest in music production. From there I went on to link up with my brother-in-law @RAHSounds and one of his friends @DariusKingMusic who also is a phenomenal producer and we ended up creating the hit single “Rollin’” which was headlined by the infamous Toronto R&B duo @S4G4Music as well as Grammy nominated artist @Guapdad4000. After that I went on to assist several Ottawa artists to begin their career in music and solidify their place in the local music scene and then in 2021, I decided to start making my own music with all I learned from helping those artists kickstart their careers.
I’m a student of the game and I know that I have a lot of growth to do within the industry. However, I also have a lot to express and share with the world. That coupled with my relentless drive to be successful is how I intend to become your favourite artist and one of the greatest of my generation. So look out for me, VSN. I’m just getting started and I have no plans to slow down.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I would argue that the most rewarding aspect of being an artist is the freedom of being able to express myself in a truly unique medium and be able to touch the hearts and minds of people and create vibes they can come back to whenever they need or want to. This is something I feel whenever I listen to music from artists I love and it gives me true joy knowing I can create feelings and moments like that for my fans and people who follow me closely.
Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
I believe that something non creatives may not understand is that inspiration can strike at any moment and there is inspiration in everything, you just have to be open and willing to immerse yourself in it. Nothing comes from nothing, Therefore, it is important to not only work to be an influence to others but also allow yourself to be influenced in some sense by the simplest things in life which at first glance may seem mundane.
