Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Vonyetta Watson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Vonyetta, thanks for joining us today. Let’s start with a story that highlights an important way in which your brand diverges from the industry standard.
Always be yourself! Social media tends to create an illusion of what people think is acceptance.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Vonyetta Thee Trendsetter. I’m a tv/radio personality and DJ. I’ve been in radio for 20 years and I’m not letting up! I am a beauty brand owner, Shop With Volt. It’s a vegan, paraben, sulfate free beauty brand. New business opportunities are here and I am grateful to God for EVERYTHING he’s done.
What else should we know about how you took your side hustle and scaled it up into what it is today?
When I first came into radio, I had a full time job. I worked in radio part time. I also worked every Saturday night from 10p-2A. It was hard, but I had faith that God would pull me thru. I ended up applying for a job in Charlotte doing middays at Power 98. I kept telling myself that I was in too small of a market to jump to that large of a market. What I learned from that is shifting your perspective and having faith is super important. God not only placed me in that very same large market, but he enlarged my territory and Iearned that God will do HIS will. He made a way out of no way, and I’m still climbing.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Shifting the perspective of how we see ourselves is super important. I had to unlearn finding everything wrong and focus on everything I have and not what I want. What’s supposed to be will be.
