We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Von Davis. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Von below.
Alright, Von thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your business sooner or later
Part of me says yes I wish I had started sooner and the other part of me is asking “Was I well equipped to even start at that time”? I started my business shortly after graduating college in 2017, although I have always knew my talent as an artist since I was in grade school. I didn’t know my worth until I witnessed others reactions towards my gift. I believe if I would have started sooner I would not know all that I know now-the good, the bad, and the ugly. If I would have waited and started later I believe my talent would have been in shambles because a gift like art should be practiced daily to keep the energy and flow of things going. Being right here, right now, exactly at this moment is where I am suppose to be with my craft, my business, and my life and I wouldn’t trade it in for anything in this world.

Von, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Von’Davis. I’m a Visual Artist based in Miami, FL. Aside from being a Visual Artist, I became very known due to my skills being a Creative Director, Educator and Mother to such a beautiful babygirl. Being a Visual Artist, I tend to utilize my creativity by sketching, painting canvases, and doing murals. My mural work has been the most fulfilling gift ever. The style and the way I tend to use my brushes with acrylic paints sets me apart from this wonderful world of artists. Overall, my work is quality work and done by hand from a sketch to a painted picture by an elite Artist.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Knowing what to post and what not to post is important. Social media has become so vital in todays world, so be aware of not posting for a long period of time. Keep your content up and clean. Reels are always the go-to and pictures should be engaging to your audience. I grew my following and interacting viewers by being frequent with my work. Rather it was art, videos I’ve directed or me having a great time with students I’ve taught, people were engaged in the posts. There’s a thin line between having a social media life and becoming addicted to social media so always know the difference and don’t get lost in the sauce. Stay active with what you love and post it every now and then.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
So there was a time where I was starting to realize my gift of Art in 2016. That was the very beginning of my art career where I had little to no supplies that were handed down to me from an art professor I had in college and supplies I’ve just collected over time. I would carry these supplies in a plastic grocery bag every where I went. At that time I was a senior in college doing my Internship. One day I left my bag of supplies on the floor at my internship and surprisingly the week I left it there was a new janitor cleaning during the time. The janitor not knowing these are my supplies, thought the bag was garbage (due to the look I assumed) and threw all my supplies in the trash. I came back the next week and realized my things were thrown away and my heart immediately stopped. I instantly felt defeated, upset, hurt and just empty. I became so attached to those sentimental gifts that were given to me to push my craft and now it was all gone. I was completely hurt. It gave me Artist block for quite some time and I didn’t know how to get out of it. But thankfully, my boyfriend at that time seen how my mood had shifted so he went out and brought an entire box of different acrylics and starter pack of brushes. I was so appreciative and thankful because that showed me how you can easily save your craft after being so hurt and down. To fast forward to today, I have more than enough paint and brushes and supplies that I have to put most of it into a storage when I’m not using it. So if you ever feel defeated at some point think of it as a “pusher” to do a 360. Be better than what you were yesterday.
