We recently connected with Vlad Bazga and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Vlad thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s jump back to the first dollar you earned as a creative? What can you share with us about how it happened?
The first salary I’ve ever received was actually related to a creative work. I got the chance to play a small part in a comedy TV show in Romania. At that time (2016), it was one of the most popular comedy shows in Romania. I remember that i was so fascinated to be on a set and i really got hooked by the idea of working as an actor. After filming for two days i got payed and i remember that i already knew what I wanted to save the money for: the brand new Iphone 7! After some time, and after playing other roles, this time in theater productions, I bought the phone and I was extremely proud of my work. I knew what I wanted to do in the future.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I like to think of myself as an upcoming artist that can bring new stuff to the art world. I started in this industry by attending a lot of different acting and theater classes and I found my passion in such work. I started playing in TV shows and theater plays such as “Dead Souls” by Nikolai Gogol or “The Little Prince” by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. Working with professional actors made me continue on this path and choose to work on my career as an actor. I am also extremely passionate about music. I have been making music since I’ve got my first guitar, and I formed a band with my high school friends. Since then, I’ve been creating music on my own and I released two albums “Sounds of a room” and “Self-Titled” which is currently on all platforms. The first album which is currently on Soundcloud was more of an experiment in which i tried to use objects that could be found in the bedroom, such as my bed, a lamp and even a spray can. The second album (“Self-Titled”) has more of an synth pop sound combined with techno music, all of it done on my phone.
Other than that, now I’m playing in a theater play called ” A love letter to my beloved (in 6 seconds)” written and directed by Nancy Rumagit. This has been one of the best experiences for me to work as an actor, and having to craft a brand new behavior made me fall in love with theater more and more.
Apart from continuing ” A love letter…” I’m also working on bringing new music to the table by trying to find new sounds and experiment with them. I plan to continue my career in cinema both as an actor and director and try to find ways in which I can use and perhaps combine music and video techniques to create a new type of meaning-making.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I feel most rewarded as an artist when the art that I worked on has impressed, influenced and impacted people (that’s what i call the triple “i”). To be able to expose your thoughts, opinions and feelings through art, which at first is very intimate, feels extremely satisfying and also addictive. Another aspect that I keeps me driven to create and perform art is the fact that I know that i am leaving my ideas and creations in the world for the future generations. The fact that I might be remembered for what I’ve created makes me feel productive and also somehow fulfilled.
Have you ever had to pivot?
I took a step-back in terms of building my career when I first started my first year of university. Before studying arts, I took the decision of studying international law which can be so interesting and challenging but also extremely bureaucratic and boring. In the span of that year I let go of all of my artistic instincts and I thought that I’m going to dedicate my life to the law ( hahaha ). That pivot made me be more productive and involved in the arts and made me realize that being an artist is as challenging as being a lawyer.
