We recently connected with Viviana Arroyo and have shared our conversation below.
Viviana, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
About a year or 2 after I graduated Cosmetology school and got my license, I decided to take a risk and open my business providing luxury lash extension services professionally.
I had been a home based lash artist for about a year with several clients who had been my practice models during school. I was very blessed to have their loyalty throughout my time in school and after. I was always scared to take a risk and open a shop straight out of school, because one of my mentors said it wouldnt work out. That I HAD to start in a salon first before I could venture out on my own.
Well, I’m not known to follow the crowd or “recommendations” so I thought to myself why? Why should I be scared to take the risk? I was confident enough in my training and knowledge, not to mention my work reflected my passion for this art. So one day I was made an offer I couldn’t resist, right in the middle of the holidays (alot of people say its probably not a good idea to open a business during that time), I signed a lease and dove head in to my new business! I’ve now been open over a year and have relocated to a larger suite than when I started!
Viviana, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I went to get my lashes done one day to see what all the hype was about, and INSTANTLY I was hooked. I was amazed at how something as simple as lash extensions could uplift your look so simply and make you feel so much more confident.
I knew from that moment not only was I hooked on getting my lashes done, but I wanted to learn how to do that and give the same feeling to other people. Because at the end of the day, who doesn’t want to feel naturally beautiful like that?!
So I enrolled in Beauty School, sadly the program I was talked into joining didn’t offer lash extension courses. So I reached out to and well known industry leader in my area, Jennifer Pope, and took her courses to get certified. She was definitely someone I aspired to be like and her work is phenomenal.
About 3 years later I now have my own business, Pretty Little Winx. I’ve poured my heart and soul in my brand. I strive to provide a safe, positive, and welcoming environment that is inclusive for all humans!
My artistry ranges from very natural sets to custom colored sets and cater to both women and male clients.
I strive to continue to always color outside the box and provide a service that makes all my clients get addicted to the feeling or looking gorgeous all the time!
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Honestly I am very new to social media, still to this day I am very shy in front of the camera! BUT, when it comes to my clients I become a pro to make sure they feel comfortable with the content I would be posting of them.
Social Media is key to get out there and noticed by potential clients. Making sure you have short attention grabbing reels, and clean, crisp pictures that really showcase your work. Take advantage of using the tooks most of the social media platforms offer by boosting some of your content to get followers or views!
You may not have alot of likes but you will always have viewers and in most cases those viewers can turn into potential clients! Make sure you are posting consistently atleast once a day! And try not to post ALL your work in one post, save some of them to mix in between so you continue to stay active/relevant in your followers feed. It makes a difference!
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The best source of new clients for me is primarily been referrals! When you provide a welcoming, relaxing and fun environment and the results of your work are spot on to what the clients were wanting? You know they will bring you more clients!
I offer a small referral discount to both the new client & the client who referred them when they visit for services. This has generated a very positive outcome and brought me more business in the long run.
