Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Vivian Yu. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Vivian, thanks for joining us today. Let’s jump right into how you came up with the idea?
The idea for Gym Near Me started from a combination of personal; passion as well as professional frustration. I have always been interested in fitness, but the more I studied the world of fitness, the more I was able to pinpoint things that gyms, as well as fitness centres, were missing. They mainly focused on the physical aspect of health while neglecting mental and nutritional elements, which are equally crucial for a human body. This realisation came to me through the means of my own struggles. That’s when I thought of creating a place that considered all aspects of health. A place that treats fitness as a part of complete wellness. I knew this idea was worth it as it addressed a genuine problem faced by the market. Individuals were actively looking out for holistic care solutions, and the increase in mental health awareness raised the need for a holistic care method.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My journey in the fitness world started with my passion for fitness. I believe that good health goes beyond the means of physical exercise. I witnessed a gap in the approach taken by gyms and health centers toward health, the approach was mainly dependent on physical exercises with little to no focus on nutritional intake. This motivated me to take a step towards bringing a transformation. At Gym Near Me, we provide a holistic health approach. We are not only giving our clients a workout plan but also exploring nutrition, p[physical fitness, as well as mental health by customizing each program as per the needs of individuals. We provide solutions for a big problem of our members by making health and fitness simple and customized. It’s not about losing weight or developing muscles but feeling good inside and out.
I am most proud of the development we have had in our client’s lives. It is rewarding when we hear the stories of transformation not just physically but also emotionally and mentally.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
One of the biggest lessons that I had to unlearn was “more is always better” when it comes to fitness and health. In the early stages of my fitness journey, I was always about pushing harder, working more, and always maximizing my intensity. I believed that this was the key to attaining my goals. The backstory about this came from my own experience and watching my clients. I witnessed burnout, injuries, and people getting discouraged as they were not able to keep up with an intense and all-in method. The same thing hit me when I overdid the work myself and got demotivated. That’s when it hit me, health is not just about how much you can push your body to the limit. It’s about maintaining balance, listening to your body, and taking time to recover and rest from your routine.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
There have been a few main resources that have helped me mold my thinking and approach in the domains of management and entrepreneurship.
The first book is “Start with Why” by Simon Sinek which proved to be a game-changer for me. It made me understand the significance of understanding the reason behind why we are doing what we are doing. This book assisted me to focus on the objective behind the Gym Near Me and making it a successful business,
The second book is “The Lean Startup” by Eric Ries. This book is based on the idea of lean management as well as the significance of agility in business. It’s mainly about testing, and learning effectively from failures which enabled me to develop our services.
Additionally, I can’t overlook the influence of TED talks as well as podcasts on multiple topics about businesses, wellness, as well as leadership. They have been invaluable to me for understanding multiple perspectives and staying inspired.
