We were lucky to catch up with Vivian Qu recently and have shared our conversation below.
Vivian, appreciate you joining us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
I love jewelry and accessories and always have an instinct that I will do something relevant to it in my life. One of my little addictions is collecting jewelry and fun fashion items from flea markets and wherever I travel. My ex-boyfriend used to say, “I can imagine you sit in your little booth selling those little pieces in a flea market when you’re 70.” Then somehow it just ended up early and instead of a flea market booth, it’s an e-commerce website. I’m a little tech-savvy, enjoying learning new ideas and tools such as Adobe, Google Analytics, Web 3.0, NFTs, OpenAI, etc. So it’s not hard for me to set up everything on Shopify and get things started.

SF Jewelry is a digital-first and web 3.0-minded online fashion jewelry boutique based in New York City that offers cute, fun, joyful, and affordable fashion jewelry to our beloved customers. We also endeavor to bring more creative and fun virtual jewelry and accessories to everyday consumers in this ever-evolving metaverse to empower true digital self-expression. At moment, we provide free virtual jewelry for everyone to try on using a Snap AI lens.
There’re several platforms you can purchase our fashion jewelry including our independent website, our Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, and Tiktok. Live every moment like a celebration. Our vision is bring you fun, unique, and joyful jewelry to your real-life moment and Meta world journey. Happy jewelry~

Do you sell on your site, or do you use a platform like Amazon, Etsy, Cratejoy, etc?
Currently, we’re selling on our website and all our affiliated social media platforms. I always believe in social commerce and I think it’s important to present ourselves at many platforms as possible to reach our target customers, as long as the platform is aligned with our brand identity. Those major social platforms charge a certain amount of fees, but I think the benefits outweigh the costs.
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
My mom is my initial angel investor. When I told her I was about to start my own business, she trusted me and seed-funded me using her savings. I also put my savings into my business. The luckiest thing in my life is my parents, they always believe in me and support whatever I wanted to do, and allow me to test how far I can go.
