We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Vivian Olodun a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Vivian, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
Coming up with a name felt like one of the most important decisions I’d ever make. I knew it had to be meaningful, not just clever.
My mother has always loved flowers, and growing up, I would spend hours helping her in the garden. Our family actually won awards for our yard, and through that experience, I learned that growth takes patience, care, and consistency—just like entrepreneurship.
Before I co-founded Flourish Media, I was working as a private business consultant, and even then my services were named after flowers. The highest-level service I offered was called Flourish, because to me that word captured what I wanted for my clients—to thrive fully, not just survive. So when it came time to launch a marketing training and development company dedicated to helping women-owned businesses bloom in the spotlight, Flourish Media felt like the most natural name.
After selecting, Flourish Media, Dr. Tracy and I did what we recommend to our Flourish members in the sprout phase. We searched online and make sure that we could owe the social media handles Flourish Media on all the popular platforms at the time. We also did a trademark search to make sure there weren’t existing brands heavily using the same name.
Now, as I care for my mother who is living with dementia, the name means even more. It reminds me daily that flourishing is about more than just professional success—it’s about nurturing joy, creating legacy, and finding beauty in every season of life.
That’s the heartbeat of what we do inside Flourish Media and why we created the Flourish Membership. It’s a place for entrepreneurs to be nurtured, supported, and reminded that their dreams deserve to grow. The very first step is taking our Seasons Quiz, which helps you understand what stage of entrepreneurship you’re in so we can help you flourish right where you are.

Vivian, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I like to say I didn’t choose entrepreneurship—it chose me.
I started out as a private consultant, helping small business owners navigate the complicated world of marketing and business growth.
Over time, I realized that the women I worked with weren’t just looking for strategies and spreadsheets—they were looking for a community that believed in their dreams and could amplify their voices. That’s why we created Flourish Media, a marketing training and development firm and women’s business community that helps entrepreneurs grow their visibility and confidence through branding, storytelling, and access to funding.
Our services range from media production to brand strategy, and what sets us apart is our commitment to legacy. We’re not just chasing trends—we’re teaching women how to build businesses that last, that feed their families, and that reflect who they are at every stage of life.
Today, I balance running Flourish Media with being a full-time caregiver for my mother, who is living with dementia. That role has deepened my understanding of what it means to be resilient and resourceful. It reminds me every day that business ownership, much like caregiving, requires patience, compassion, and the ability to adapt.
I’m most proud of creating spaces where women feel seen and supported, whether that’s through our Flourish Media conferences, the Flourish Membership, or even just one honest conversation with a fellow entrepreneur. What I want people to know about my work is simple: you don’t have to do it alone.
There’s a community ready to nurture your ideas and help them grow. The best way to start is by taking the Seasons Quiz—it helps you identify exactly where you are in your business journey, so we can give you the right tools to flourish.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele has always been rooted in one belief: growth happens in collaboration.
From the very beginning of my entrepreneurial journey, I knew I didn’t want to build in isolation. The very first thing I did was send out an email to my small list of friends and colleagues, letting them know I was going on this crazy adventure. Those same people are still with me today, now joined by thousands more who make up my email community.
I affectionately call them my Tribe, because they are so much more than contacts in a database. They’re people who’ve walked with me through successes and failures, who share my offers, send referrals, and open doors to opportunities I couldn’t have accessed alone.
That sense of collaboration has been the key to every business and project I’ve had the privilege to lead.
What sets my approach apart is that I invite my community into the journey—I share not just the polished wins, but the vulnerable lessons too. It creates trust, and trust creates growth. I truly believe we’re all in this together, and my clients feel that.
That’s why Flourish Media isn’t just about marketing—it’s about building a thriving ecosystem for women entrepreneurs. Inside our Flourish Membership, we continue this same spirit of collaboration, helping members find partners, resources, and strategies to grow together. And the first step is always simple: take the Seasons Quiz to discover where you are in your business journey so you can find the support you need to flourish.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I like to joke that pivoting is my love language. Honestly, I’m always pivoting. My cofounder, Dr. Tracey Timberlake, and I sit down every few months to look at the business and decide what’s working, what’s not, and what new opportunities we want to lean into. Some things stay, some things go—but that’s the beauty of being an entrepreneur: you’re constantly refining.
A great example is 2025. For years, we’ve used AI and automation behind the scenes at Flourish Media to run a lean team and keep our systems tight. But this year, our community came to us saying, ‘We want to know how to do that too.’ So, we pivoted. Now, every Flourish Member gets trained on creating their own custom GPT and setting up automations to reduce costs and save time.
The economy has made it really tough for many women entrepreneurs to stay profitable, and we knew this was a tool that could make a real difference. That’s the heart of pivoting—it’s not just about survival, it’s about staying responsive to the needs of your community.
So yes, pivoting is a constant in my life and business, but I see it less as changing directions and more as dancing with what’s possible. And the best part is, I never pivot alone—I pivot with my Tribe, and together, we all get to flourish.
