We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Vivian marcela Rada. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Vivian marcela below.
Vivian marcela, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. If you had a defining moment that you feel really changed the trajectory of your career, we’d love to hear the story and details.
My defining moment was definitely when I took a course with the ILO (international labour organization) and UNODC (united nations office on drugs and crime) on child labor, literally, they took a blindfold off me, and I never saw the reality of so many women, men, and children the same way again. Knowing that behind that child selling flowers or candy on the streets, there is a whole mafia of child renting, profiting from their poverty and vulnerability, that’s why in my 16 years of practice, my personal and professional struggle became giving voice to these children, women, and men who are exploited in the new modality of modern slavery. That’s why today and until the end of my days, I will be a spokesperson and I will try to reach as many people as possible with my workshops and talks on the prevention of human trafficking and child labor.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a psychologist, a master clinical hypnotherapist, a coach in emotional intelligence, a consultant in human rights and anti-human trafficking, as well as a Reiki practitioner, Access Bars practitioner, and holistic therapist. This comprehensive approach to my practice allows me to address all areas of the human experience, providing services to the community through individual sessions, couples, families, and corporate groups of all ages. My bilingual holistic approach enables me to share my services without language barriers.
Currently, I am nearing the completion of my studies in psychoneuroimmunology, which has allowed me to see how the integration of alternative and traditional therapies complement each other so that epigenetically, we can modify our health states. In other words, we are not slaves to our genes, and with a cultural and emotional shift, we can achieve physiological changes in our bodies. Today, it is scientifically proven the influence that our emotional state has on our health.
I’m truly proud to be a professional whom I consider holistic, as I don’t adhere to the traditional counseling model. I combine psychosocial support, addressing biological and physiological parameters, with the benefits of mindfulness practice, bioenergetics, and other techniques to enhance the immune system, emotional well-being, personal empowerment, development, and resilience.
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
Definitely and out of personal and professional ethics, it is necessary for me to work on myself. Over the years, I have engaged in professional development, self-awareness, and personal growth. I have applied these tools in my roles as a mother, daughter, wife, and woman. I believe that a good holistic therapist is far from perfect and must be constantly seeking the development of their being. Apart from studying and staying updated on topics of interest, I, for example, am academically involved in something each year that serves me first for my personal growth but also helps me in my professional work. Knowledge is an infinite spiral, and I believe I will never stop preparing myself for both my clients and myself.
If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
Yes, I would definitely choose psychology again. To me, the human mind, emotions, and their interrelation are fascinating. The only thing I would change is that I would start studying holistically earlier. I believe that if I had known about this much earlier, I would have saved myself a few stumbles. I would also continue to choose human rights advocacy, despite the dangers it sometimes entails. I cannot be at peace with inequality, social disparity, and human trafficking
