Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Vivian Harris. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Vivian thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. One deeply underappreciated facet of entrepreneurship is the kind of crazy stuff we have to deal with as business owners. Sometimes it’s crazy positive sometimes it’s crazy negative, but crazy experiences unite entrepreneurs regardless of industry. Can you share a crazy story with our readers?
Recently becoming unexpectedly unemployed and no luck with submitting applications, I had to find a way of independence. Since hair braiding has been one of my self taught gifts since the age of 8. I put my energy into building a hair salon brand. So, I opened VIP Essentials Salon early part of 2025. I had recently graduated with my Masters degree in Industrial and Organizational Psychology. Graduating with honors of 3 honor societies and fraternity Phi Sigma Pi I was eager to hit the ground running! I began to search for a space that I could open up a hair salon. I met with a guy who had a commercial space available for rent. He presented an opportunity of renting out two of his suites. Along with the price I was excited! Afterwards, I was presented with the opportunity to expand the space that was shown previously. I didn’t feel as though I was ready to take on that much so soon. Eventually, I opened a salon and as time went on I inquired with the current owner of the commercial property about the opportunity that he had previously presented to me to expand my business. Due to past business failures I was hesitant to take on the additional space that was being presented to me. I proceeded with the additional space by using my educational knowledge and began consulting myself with this business opportunity. Now located in the Bronzeville neighborhood near downtown Milwaukee, Wisconsin I contribute my passion for hair, life and business consulting as my platform that has better developed me with the intention on better developing others. I now have an up and running hair salon with tenants and looking forward to more growth and development opportunities ahead!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
As stated earlier, I have always had a knack for hair since age 8. Something that came naturally for me as an individual is what I run on. Wanting to better myself and others. Hair care is and has been the foundation but my true intention has been the overall aspect. I have always wanted to see individual feel, think and do better. And that’s the nurturing side of me that seeks to see growth in every way of living. Striving to be, feel, do and look your best This is my contribution to the world as my calling. I have aspirations to add hair care products to my salon services along with organic body products such as lotion, etc. Image Consulting is my most recent service that I have added as well! I am the owner of VIP Essentials Salon DBA Infinite Concepts.

How do you keep your team’s morale high?
I advise to never get comfortable. As things are constantly changing you have to constantly be ahead of and on top of things. Nothing stays the same and you need to always be prepared for the change that will come.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I’ve had businesses before and what they showed me is that for every fall there is a stronger comeback. Resilience is key to success.
