We were lucky to catch up with Vivek Verma recently and have shared our conversation below.
Vivek, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Has your work ever been misunderstood or mischaracterized?
Yes, I believe this has happened quite a few times. In the journey of creating art, it often takes time, sometimes years just to deeply understand your own work. It’s a process of growth and evolution. However, while you are immersed in this process, people around you tend to judge your work based on external markers like numbers, fame, or money. Over time, even their perception of art becomes conditioned by these metrics, and the emotional and creative magic of the work tends to fade in their eyes, replaced solely by a focus on measurable success.
I have experienced this not only professionally but also in personal relationships, where my dedication to my art was misunderstood as a “struggle.” However, instead of seeking validation, these experiences helped me become even more aligned with my art and my inner self. I learned that true art flourishes when it remains free from the need for external approval. This realization has been crucial in preserving the authenticity and purity of my creative expression.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a singer, songwriter, and composer who believes in creating the purest form of art and music that holds real meaning for the soul. My journey began with a strange, undeniable pull towards music since childhood. from a deep need to express what words alone could never capture. Over the years, this passion evolved into a full-fledged career, giving me the privilege to work across various parts of the music and entertainment industry, from composing original tracks and building my identity as an independent artist to collaborating on major Bollywood projects.
I specialize in crafting music that is emotionally resonant, whether it’s a film soundtrack, an independent single, or a custom piece for a brand. My work is rooted in storytelling through sound, aiming to evoke real emotions rather than simply follow trends. Authenticity has always been at the core of my approach I don’t just create songs; I create experiences that stay with people long after the music ends.
For my listeners and collaborators, I offer more than just music . I offer a deeper creative partnership. I help bring emotions, visions, and untold stories to life through music that feels alive and personal. Whether it’s helping a filmmaker capture the soul of their narrative or shaping a soundscape for a brand seeking real human connection, my goal remains the same ,to create something sonically appeasing .
We’d love to hear your thoughts on NFTs. (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
I think NFTs are an interesting opportunity for creators to own and monetize their work in a decentralized way. They provide new paths for artists to reach their audiences directly and create long-term value around their creations. But personally, I believe that like any medium, their real impact will depend on the authenticity and purpose behind the content and not just the trend.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
One of the biggest lessons I had to unlearn was the idea that success should be measured by external validation, by numbers, fame, or applause. Early on, like many artists, I subconsciously believed that hitting certain milestones would bring fulfillment. But with time, I realized that real fulfillment comes from staying true to your art, regardless of how the world measures it. The backstory is simple: there were phases where, despite giving my best creatively, the “results” weren’t immediately visible. It was easy to question my path. But those very moments taught me that real art needs time, patience, and inner validation and not just instant approval. Unlearning that external chase made me more grounded, more fearless, and deeply connected to why I started in the first place.
