We recently connected with Vittorio Masecchia and have shared our conversation below.
Vittorio, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What sort of legacy are you hoping to build. What do you think people will say about you after you are gone, what do you hope to be remembered for?
It’s my hope that I’ve empowered my community. I would love if my legacy included my missions for queer visibility, innovative makeup tools, and contributions to dismantling the patriarchy.
Vittorio, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I come from a long lineage of beauty experts and got my start in the industry at a very young age. I’ve done makeup for loads of cool celebrities, have been backstage at tons of major awards shows, and am regularly on set with incredible beauty brands. I’m celebrating my 20th year as a makeup artist and have just launched my own brand with amazing reception from the beauty community. The brand is about to venture into the world of retail and I’m incredibly excited about seeing my products alongside other luxury brands I’ve admired for so long.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
It has been really helpful to connect with my fellow artist and industry peers – both throughout my career and when launching my own brand. Being kind definitely paid off when it was time to start a new social media account for “VIttorio Masecchia Beauty”. I initially worked with a PR agency to help my products reach influencers and artists. I started with content to tease the products, then content of the product in use off-figure, then started using the content that naturally came in from the people receiving my products… who were incredibly excited about it and wanted to share, thank god.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I can think of so many moments over the last two decades of work where “NO” was just not an option for me. I was so sure of what I wanted and felt so good about expressing my artistry that I just pushed through each hurdle… learning from each challenge. However, most recently with started a brand, I was surprised by the projection of fears by some of the people around me… suggesting I not take the risk. It felt really scary to not only deal with my own anxieties but to manage the anxieties of the people who didn’t understand my vision. I can honestly say that the experience of pushing past the outside opinions has strengthened my intuition and connection with trusting myself.
